About the Author: Shibli Shamil: A Lebanese physician and thinker, he is considered one of the first to adopt the theory of evolution and development in the Arab East, and he used his pen to advocate for it, and to link it to life and social issues. Shibli bin Ibrahim Shamil was born in 1850 AD, in Kafr Shima, south of Beirut, and grew up in a religious establishment in a house of knowledge and literature, but he later rebelled against the Church and the teachings of its men, claiming that it contradicted open minds and free understandings. He received his primary education at the American Missionaries School in Beirut, and deepened the study of Arabic literature, Islamic culture and philosophy, until his colleagues called him “The Philosopher Professor.” In 1866 CE, he joined the Syrian Evangelical College in Beirut (currently the American University) to study medicine, and graduated in 1871 CE, after he presented a thesis entitled: “The Difference of Animals and Man with regard to Territory, Food and Education,” in which he stated much of what he found in support of Darwin’s doctrine. In 1875, he went to Paris and stayed there for a whole year, during which he deepened in medical sciences, got acquainted with many philosophical schools, and saw that he had found evidence of the theory of evolution and reassured his mind and conscience of their correctness. A movement active in the late nineteenth century held that the natural sciences alone were the key to understanding the secrets of the universe. Shamil moved from France to Egypt, worked in medicine, and was considered one of the most famous Arab doctors. He saw that medicine should be free and purely to serve people and relieve their pain. In 1886 AD, he issued a monthly medical journal called “Al-Shifa”, edited by senior doctors in Egypt. But his main battle was intellectual of the first order; He took it upon himself to defend his views, speaking out what he saw as mere truth, and his endorsement of Darwin’s doctrine of evolution was met with sharp attack. Shibli Shamil was afflicted with asthma in his last years, and his health fell ill, and he passed away in Cairo in 1917 AD, as a result of a severe asthma attack. He left two large volumes that included a group of his most important books, namely: “Buchner’s Commentary on Darwin’s Doctrine,” “The Truth,” “Scientific and Social Investigations,” and “The Views of Dr. Shibli Shamil.”

About the Author: Al-Hasan bin Al-Haytham: One of the most famous Muslim scholars, he excelled in astronomy, medicine and engineering, and was nicknamed “Ptolemy the Second”. Al-Hassan bin Al-Haytham Abu Ali Al-Basri was born in 354 AH/969 AD in Basra, where he received his education, and a contemporary of Al-Farabi, Al-Kindi, Al-Khwarizmi and Al-Razi. Ibn al-Haytham was known for his asceticism and devotion to science, studying and teaching. The ruler appointed him some of the offices, and he accepted them reluctantly out of fear of the ruler when he saw his harshness with those who disobey him, so he faked madness, so the ruler stripped him of his money and isolated him in a house from the house and made him proud and disgraced people. Ibn al-Haytham made abundant efforts in many sciences until his news reached European scholars who called him “Al-Hazen” through his famous book “Al-Manazir” which was translated into Latin. Euclid”, “Burning Mirrors”, and “Heights of the Planets”, and he has nearly twenty-four books on optics. Ibn al-Haytham died in Cairo in the year 430 AH.

It is worth noting that it was the deafness that afflicted him that forced him to leave formal education, and replaced him with his father’s library; He worked on reading and absorbing everything in it. He has held a number of positions; He worked as a clerk at Talkha Court, then moved to Itai al-Baroud Court, then Tanta Sharia Court, and concluded his career by affiliation with the Civil Court. The sea of ​​literature enriched him with many of his poetic and prose creations. He issued his first diwan in 1903, while he was in the prime of his youth. This diwan was praised and admired by the poets of his time. Al-Baroudi, Hafez and Al-Kazemi praised him and sent him a telegram of congratulations; But the praise did not deter him from the decision he took to leave the field of poetry and go to the arena of artistic and literary prose in which he excelled, where he presented many literary and religious books, the most famous of which are “Moon Talks”, “Leafs of Roses”, “Under the Banner of the Qur’an”, and The Miracle of the Qur’an and Prophetic Rhetoric”. About the Author: Nicolas Fayyad: He is a Lebanese poet, translator, preacher, physician, and member of the Arab Scientific Academy (the Academy of the Arabic Language) in Damascus. الكتاب هو محاولة لإثبات أن فلسفة “كانط ميتافيزيقية” أصيلة تبحث في نفس المباحث الميتافيزيقية التقليدية انطلاقاً من فهم كانط للميتافيزيقية بأنها العلم “الذي يتجاوز كل موضوعات التجربة الممكنة ليعرف ما لا يمكن أن يعرفه من خلال الموضوع” وذلك العلم الذي يؤسس “المعارف العقلية الأولية الخالصة” وإذا كانت فلسفة كانط قد خضعت لتأويلات عدة فاعتبرت في ألمانيا “نظرية في المعرفة” وأولتها مدرسة ماربورغ على أنها مثالية خالصة واعتبرتها الوضعية المنطقية “فلسفة تحليلية” فإن الكتاب سيحاول قراءة فلسفة كانت على أنها معنية بالبحث في الوجود بما هو موجود والبحث في المبادئ والعلل الأولى وتأتي هذه المحاولة استكمالاً لقراءة هيدغر فلسفة كانط عى أنها فلسفة معنية بالبحث في الموجود والوجود

About the Author: Immanuel Kant was an eighteenth-century German philosopher (1724-1804). He lived his whole life in the city of Königsberg in the Kingdom of Prussia. He was the last influential philosopher in modern European culture. And one of the most important philosophers who wrote on classical epistemology. Immanuel Kant was the last of the Enlightenment philosophers, which began with British thinkers John Locke, George Berkeley, and David Hume.
Immanuel Kant put forward a new perspective in philosophy that influenced and continues to influence European philosophy until now, meaning that his influence extended from the eighteenth century until the twenty-first century. He published important and fundamental works on epistemology and other works on religion and on law and history.
The most famous of his works is his book Critique of Abstract Reason, which he published in 1781 when he was about sixty years old. In this book, Kant explores the limitations and structure of the human mind itself. In this book he attacks traditional metaphysics and classical epistemology. And the most beautiful and creative contributions were in this area in particular. Then he published other major works in his old age, including his book Critique of Practical Reason, in which he examined the aspect of morality and the human conscience, and his book, Critique of Judgment, in which he investigated the philosophy of beauty and teleology.

«شيئان يملآن الوجدان إعجابًا وإجلالا يتجدّدان ويزدادان باسْتمرار كلّما أنعم الفكرُ التأمّلَ فيهما: السماء المرصّعة بالنجوم فوقي والقانون الأخلاقيُّ في صدري. لستُ في حاجة إلى أن أبحث عنهما خارجَ مجال بصري وأخمّنَ فيهما مجرّد تخمينٍ وكأنّهما محجوبان أو واقعان في الماورائيِّ؛ إنّي أراهما أمامي وأربطُهما في الحال بوعي وجودي. أمّا الأوّل فينطلق من الموضع الذي أحتلّه من عالَم الحواسّ الخارجيِّ، ويبسطُ من حيث أقف، نطاق الرباطِ إلى عِظمٍ فسيحٍ حيث عوالِمُ فوق عوالِمَ ومنظوماتٌ فوق منظوماتٍ، وإلى جانب ذلك حركتُها الدوريّة في أزمنة لا حدود لها وبدايتها واستمرارها. وأمّا الثاني فينطلق من ذاتي اللاّمرئيّة، من شخصيّتي، ويُظهرني في عالَمٍ ذي لانهائيّةٍ صادقةٍ، لكن لا يقتفي أثرَها إلاّ الذهنُ…». هكذا يختم كَانط كتابه “نقد العقل العمليّ” حيث يسبق إلى إخراج مثاليّةٍ أخلاقيّةٍ محضٍة تقوم على فكرة استقلال العقل، ومن ثمّ فكرة القيام الذاتيّ للشخصيّة الأخلاقيّة. وهذه من أشدّ الفِكَرِ النقديّة وقْعًا لا على المثاليّات الألمانيّة وحسب، بل كذلك على تاريخ الفلسفة الحديثة والمعاصرة. لقد سعينا في هذه الترجمة أن نقدم للقارئ العربي نصّا آخر من أمّهات نصوص الفلسفة الحديثة، نص ما ينفكّ يفعل عند مغلب المنقَلبات النظريّة للفلسفة من فيشته الأوّل وشلّنج الأوّل مرورا بمدرستيْ ماربورْج وبادِهْ إلى الفكر الليبيراليّ المعاصر.
