ادونيس لقب الشاعر وهو أحد ألقاب الآلهة في اللغة الكنعانية-الفينيقية، فالكلمة أدون تحمل معنى سيد أو إله بالكنعانية مضاف إليها السين (التذكير باليونانية) وهو معشوق الآلهة عشتار انتقلت أسطورة أدونيس للثقافة اليونانية وحبيبته صارت أفروديت. يجسد الربيع والإخصاب لدى الكنعانين والإغريق. وكان يصور كشاب رائع الجمال. أدونيس لم يعرف مدرسة نظامية قبل سن الثالثة عشرة. حفظ القرآن على يد أبيه، كما حفظ عددًا كبيرًا من قصائد القدامى. وفي ربيع 1944, ألقى قصيدة وطنية من شعره أمام شكري القوتلي، رئيس الجمهورية السورية حينذاك، والذي كان في زيارة للمنطقة. نالت قصيدته الإعجاب، فأرسلته الدولة إلى المدرسة العلمانية الفرنسية في طرطوس ، فقطع مراحل الدراسة قفزاً, وتخرج من جامعة دمشق متخصصاً في الفلسفةنعيش في وَضْع يقول لنا إنّ «ثقافة» أولئك الناطقين باسم «الأمّة» و«ثوابتها» و«حقائقها المطلقة», لا تشوِّه المعرفة وطُرقها وحسب، وإنّما تُلغيها كذلك. إنّها «ثقافة» مؤسّسةٌ على خلَلٍ أصليّ في العلاقات بين الأسماء والأشياء. كلّها ألفاظٌ واستيهاماتٌ. والمعرفة, بحسب هذه «الثقافة» مجرّد «ظاهرة كلاميّة». إنّها «ثقافة» لا تُلغي الأفرادَ والتاريخ وحسب، وإنّما تلغي أيضًا «الأمّة» نفسَها.

About the Author: Ali Ahmad Saeed Esber, better known by his pen name Adonis, is a Syrian poet born in 1930 in the village of Qasabin, in the city of Jableh in Syria. He adopted the name Adonis (after the Phoenician legend of Adonis), with which he deviated from the traditions of Arabic naming since 1948.
