About the Author: Ahmed Lotfy El-Sayed: An Egyptian thinker, he served as Minister of Education and then of the Interior, President of the Academy of Arabic Language, President of Dar al-Kutub, and Director of the Egyptian University. Ahmed Lotfi El Sayed Abu Ali was born in 1872 AD in the village of Burqin in Dakahlia Governorate, and grew up in a wealthy family. He joined the Law School and during his studies he got to know Sheikh Muhammad Abdo, who encouraged him; As a result of this encouragement, Ahmad Lutfi al-Sayyid and a group of prominent law school students created the magazine “The Legislation.” He also met Jamal al-Din al-Afghani during his visit to Istanbul in 1893 AD and was influenced by his ideas. After Ahmed Lotfi Al-Sayed obtained his Bachelor of Laws, he worked on behalf and rose in positions until he was appointed as deputy judge in Fayoum. During this period, he participated with his old friend “Abdul Aziz Fahmy” in the establishment of a secret society called the “Egypt Liberation Association”. When the news of it reached Khedive Abbas Helmy, he sought it through Mustafa Kamel, a colleague of Ahmed Lutfi al-Sayyid at the Law School, where the Khedive was seeking liberation from the grip of British occupation. Ahmed Lutfi al-Sayed adopted the liberal concept of freedom in Europe, calling for the individual to enjoy a great deal of freedom. He is the author of the famous saying: “Difference in opinion does not spoil friendship.” He called for defining a concept of the Egyptian personality, as well as for women’s education. During his presidency of the university, the first batch of female students graduated. Ahmed Lotfi El-Sayed demanded the university’s independence, and submitted his resignation when Taha Hussein was expelled from the university. He also submitted his resignation again when the police stormed the university campus, and called for the use of Egyptian colloquial language instead of Standard Arabic. Politically, he founded the Egyptian Umma Party with the slogan “Egypt for the Egyptians” in December 1907, as the party’s main goal was to demand complete independence and the constitution. Ahmed Lotfy El-Sayed is considered one of the largest contributors to carrying the banner of education and enlightenment in Egypt in the twentieth century, and he remained a teacher for his pioneering generation until he left our world on March 5, 1963 in Cairo.

الشاهد على العتمة الذي له تقرؤون الآن ليس شاهدا على ما سمع أو على ما نقلت إليه الأخبار من أحداث. الشاهد على العتمة الذي له تقرؤون قد عاش زمن العتمة فعلا وعانى منها كثيرا في مخيّمات اللاجئين . شاهد على زمن قٌتل فيه الإنسان على قارعات الطرق وأرصفة الشوارع دون مبرر يذكر . وأهينت فيه الأوطان وتمزقت. فما عاد من الفِرار منها مناص لمن تبقّى على قيد الحياة. إفادات تحكي للتأريخ قصة وطن مزّقته الحرب .وشعب شتته النار . إفادات تحدثت عن أصعب حقبّة زمنيّة شهدها التأريخ العربيّ . لم يكن الرّاوي الذي اختاره الشاهد على العتمة إلا لسان حال هذا الشاهد. بدأ الشاهد على العتمة ينشر إفاداته ..ليقرأها الجميع. اتخذ من إمكانيته على رسم الصورة وتجسيد الواقع أدبيّا السبيل إلى لفت نظر الآخرين لقضيّته وقضيّة وطنه الممزق . وتسلل من خلالهما إلى أعماق القارئ واستنهاض ما بداخله من الرفض الإنساني لما يحدث فيه من مآس وويلات. لم ينس شاهدنا على عتمة العصر أن لغة تجسيد الحدث لابدّ أن تكون بمستوى الحدث. فكتب إفاداته بدم الأحاسيس الجريحة والمشاعر المتضمخة بالوجع. وختم كلّ إفادة منهن ّ بختم المتاهة والضياع والتشرد الذي يعيشه الوطن السليب. لم يكن استعراضيّا في صياغة إفاداته ..ولم يكن متبجحا فيها …ولم يكن راغبا في إعلاء شأن الأديب فيه بالقدر الذي كان فيه جرحا ينزف وقلبا ينصهر وإحساسا يتكسّر على أعتاب الوطن المفقود. فسكتت لغة الكلام في إفادات شاهدنا ونطق الوجع. فما كان أصدق من تلك اللغة لغة أخرى. وما كانت الحقائق لتقال بلسان أبلغ من لسان مَن ذاق الموت وعاشه مرات ومرات . قرأت إفادات الشاهد على عتمة العصر فاعتصرني الوجع وأدهشتني بلاغة التجسيد ومابين الوجع والدهشة وجدتني متلهفا لحفظ هذي الإفادات التي لا يمكن لغير شاهدنا أن يجسدها للأجيال اللاحقة فقررت أن أكون سببا في توثيقها علّني بذلك أعين من أراد أن لا تمرّ الأحداث المريرة من تأريخ الوطن مرور الكرام على ذاكرة الجيل.

Zainab bint Ali bin Hussein bin Obaid Allah bin Hassan bin Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Yusef Fawaz was born in 1276 AH / 1846 AD, probably, in the town of Tibnin in Sidon, southern Lebanon. Her father was poor; So the lady “Fatima bint Asaad Al-Khalil”, the wife of the governor of the town, “Ali Bey Al-Asaad”, served her, and she was favored over her; She taught her to read and write. Zainab was married twice; The first is from “Adib Nazmi al-Dimashqi,” one of the courtiers, but the marriage did not last long. Then she left for Alexandria, where she studied morphology, eloquence, and presentations at the hands of Hassan Hosni Al-Tuwarani, owner of the newspaper “The Nile.” She also studied grammar and composition under Sheikh Mohieddin Al-Nabhani, and then moved to Cairo. As for her second marriage, it took place after she gained fame, as Adeeb Nazmi admired her. After several correspondences, she traveled to Damascus and married him. The marriage lasted only three years, after which she returned to Egypt. She became famous and wrote in several newspapers, including: “Al-Nil”, “Lisan Al-Hal”, “Al-Moayad”, “Al-Liwaa”, “Al-Ahly”, “Al-Ittihad Al-Masry”, “Al-Fata” and “Anis Al-Jalis” magazines. ».
