About the Author: Shibli Shamil: A Lebanese physician and thinker, he is considered one of the first to adopt the theory of evolution and development in the Arab East, and he used his pen to advocate for it, and to link it to life and social issues. Shibli bin Ibrahim Shamil was born in 1850 AD, in Kafr Shima, south of Beirut, and grew up in a religious establishment in a house of knowledge and literature, but he later rebelled against the Church and the teachings of its men, claiming that it contradicted open minds and free understandings. He received his primary education at the American Missionaries School in Beirut, and deepened the study of Arabic literature, Islamic culture and philosophy, until his colleagues called him “The Philosopher Professor.” In 1866 CE, he joined the Syrian Evangelical College in Beirut (currently the American University) to study medicine, and graduated in 1871 CE, after he presented a thesis entitled: “The Difference of Animals and Man with regard to Territory, Food and Education,” in which he stated much of what he found in support of Darwin’s doctrine. In 1875, he went to Paris and stayed there for a whole year, during which he deepened in medical sciences, got acquainted with many philosophical schools, and saw that he had found evidence of the theory of evolution and reassured his mind and conscience of their correctness. A movement active in the late nineteenth century held that the natural sciences alone were the key to understanding the secrets of the universe. Shamil moved from France to Egypt, worked in medicine, and was considered one of the most famous Arab doctors. He saw that medicine should be free and purely to serve people and relieve their pain. In 1886 AD, he issued a monthly medical journal called “Al-Shifa”, edited by senior doctors in Egypt. But his main battle was intellectual of the first order; He took it upon himself to defend his views, speaking out what he saw as mere truth, and his endorsement of Darwin’s doctrine of evolution was met with sharp attack. Shibli Shamil was afflicted with asthma in his last years, and his health fell ill, and he passed away in Cairo in 1917 AD, as a result of a severe asthma attack. He left two large volumes that included a group of his most important books, namely: “Buchner’s Commentary on Darwin’s Doctrine,” “The Truth,” “Scientific and Social Investigations,” and “The Views of Dr. Shibli Shamil.”

استقى برشت موضوع هذه الرواية من النص المسرحي “أوبرا الشحاذ” للكاتب البريطاني الكلاسيكي جون جاي , فكتبها أولا كنص مسرحي بعنوان “أوبرا البنسات الثالثة” ثم قدمها كسيناريو لفيلم سينمائي, وأخيرا قدمها كرواية. نستطيع أن نقول أنها تنهض على فكرة إدانة المجتمع البرجوازي من خلال تركيزه على فقر العالم وهذا الكم الكبير من الشر الموجود في النفس البشرية. كتبت الرواية عام 1934 ليصحح بها المؤلف أخطاءه التي وقع فيها في النص المسرحي فتبدو الرواية أكثر تحديدا وبعيدة عن التجريد والغنائية, وهي نموذج حي للرواية الملحمية ذات الأبعاد التي يلجأ إليها الكاتب بالتدخل والتعليق والتهكم والتفلسف, وهي الرواية الوحيدة التي كتبها برشت, وقد فتنت الرواية الشاعر المسرحي المصري نجيب سرور فأعاد تقديمها في نص بعنوان : ملك الشحاتين.

بأدوات “المعارضة الساخرة” يضع بريشت شكل ومضمون مسرحيته هذه في صراع، بحيث يكشف كل طرف منها الطرف الآخر: الشكل يكشف للقارئ والمشاهد كشيء مضحك لا معقول وزائف في حين أن المضمون يعرّي أسلوب حياة البورجوازية الامبريالية المعاصرة في كافة جوانب تدهورها ووحشيتها وتهتكها الأخلاقي وعمقها. وهكذا فإن “المعارضة الساخرة” لدى بريشت تغرّب المادة المعالجة، وفي انسجام تام مع نظرية المسرح الملحمي نجدها تخدم مهمة شحذ قدرة المراقبة والمتابعة لدى المشاهد وتوقظ حسه النقدي. إن جان دارك في هذه المسرحية، من حيث وقائع الحدث، هي “عذراء أورليانز” الكاتب شيلر، ولكنها في الوقت نفسه شخصية أخرى، فهي لدى شيلر تناصر الضعفاء والمسحوقين وتنتصر عدة انتصارات إلى أن تستشهد، فتكلل بطلة وقديسة. أما عند بريثت، فإن جميع انتصاراتها شكلية زائفة وكانت عملياً لصالح أرباب العمل ضد العمال، الذين تريد جان دارك بكل جوانحها أن تشاركهم مصيرهم وتخفف من بؤسهم. لكنها نتيجة الأحكام الدينية المسبقة التي تسيطر على تفكيرها وتسيره، ترتكب الخطأ تلو الخطأ إلى أن تقي لحظة موتها الطريق الحقيقي لخلاص المسحوقين، وعندما تفتح فمها لتعلنه أمام الفقراء يخنقها التجار والمتاجرون بأعلام التبجيل والقداسة. لقد تحرك بين أيديهم إلى سلعة أخرى، تساهم في استمرارهم في مراكزهم وفي تحكمهم بمصائر العمال والكادحين ويمكن القول بأنه كثيراً ما اتهمت هذه المسرحية بأنها أسيرة فترة نشوئها، ولذا فقد فقدت أهميتها ومعاصرتها، لكن وبنظرة سريعة إلى أزمات العالم الرأسمالي الإمبريالى من حولنا وبنظرة أخرى إلى موجات الردة الدينية في الغرب بحثاً عن الخلاص من عالم لم يعد معقولاً أو قابلاً للعيش، يمكن إدراك أهمية هذه المسرحية طالما بقي الصراع قائماً بين المستغلين والمستغلين.

He was sent on a study mission to Italy at the expense of the Egyptian government, and there he studied arts, literature, political economy, and international law during three years from 1853 to 1855, and he was given the opportunity to gain a special knowledge of culture; Where he was acquainted with the works of the most important playwrights, especially “Molière”, “Goldoni” and “Sheridan”. In the year 1870 AD, he established a theater group to present his plays in Cairo, and his plays were performed at the Azbakeya Hall theatre. He continued to show his plays for two years until he presented a play entitled “Homeland and Freedom”, in which he ridiculed the corruption of the palace and the ruling regime. The Khedive became angry with him and ordered the closure of his theater and his exile to France. In addition to his theatrical works, “Yacoub Sanoua” published many satirical political newspapers, the most important of which is “Abu Nazara Zarqa” in 1866 AD, in which he criticized the rule of Khedive Ismail, and when he was exiled to France, he continued to publish our newspaper, or he published it in the name of Egyptian National. He also published “Abu Zamara”, “The Islamic World”, and “Al-Thartharah Al-Masrya”, and established two scholarly literary societies, the first of which he named “Mahfl Al-Taqdum”, and the other “Mahfl Mohebi”. He wrote many comic and love novels, in addition to his social-critical plays, which were written in a comic style, including: “Abu Rida and Ka’ab Al-Khair”, “The Alexandrian Princess”, “Al-Sadaq” and “Al-Sadaq” , and “Al-Durratin”, “Moliere of Egypt and what it suffers”, “Women’s School”, “Scrooge”, and many others. He died in Paris in 1912.

مسرحيَّةٌ اجتماعيةٌ فكاهيَّةٌ قصيرةٌ، كُتبت باللَّهجةِ العامِّيةِ المِصْرية، تُناقِشُ قضيةَ تعدُّدِ الزَّوجاتِ بصورةٍ بالغةِ الطَّرافة، مِن خلالِ مُحاوَراتٍ بينَ الزوجتَينِ الأُولى والثانية، تُمثِّلُ الطِّباعَ والعاداتِ الشعبيةَ التي تتعلَّقُ بثقافةِ الزَّواجِ والضَّرائر. «صابحة» الزوجةُ الأُولى تُحاوِلُ التماسُكَ أمامَ زَوجِها وادِّعاءَ الصبرِ على وجودِ زَوجةٍ ثانيةٍ له، بلْ تُصدِّقُه أيضًا عندَما يُخبِرُها أنَّه إنَّما أقبَلَ على الزَّواجِ مرةً أُخرى مِن أَجلِ راحتِها، وحتَّى تصيرَ الزوجةُ الثانيَةُ «فطومة» خادمةً لها. ولكِن «صابحة» تَغلِي مِنَ الغِيرة، وتُحاوِلُ أنْ تَحِيكَ المَكائدَ لتفرِّقَ بينَهما، فهل ستنجحُ في نصْبِ فخٍّ مُحكَمٍ لتُوقِعَ بضَرَّتِها «فطومة»؟! وردَتْ هذه المسرحِيةُ بعُنوانِ «الدرتَين» (بحَرفِ الدَّال)، بينما تُشيرُ الأحداثُ الواردةُ فيها إلى ضرورةِ كتابةِ العُنوانِ ﺑ «الضَّاد»؛ بحيثُ يصيرُ العُنوانُ «الضَّرتَين»، ويَشملُ هذا الخطأَ المُحتوى الداخِليُّ للكِتاب؛ إذ تَرِدُ فيه كلمةُ «ضرة» بالدَّال، وقد آثَرْنا تَرْكَ هذا الخطأِ كما هو نظرًا لإشارةِ بعضِ المُختصِّينَ إلى عُنوانِ الكتابِ بحَرفِ الدَّالِ لا الضَّاد، وعلى رأسِ هؤلاءِ الدكتور محمد يوسف نجم، الذي قام بتصويرِ المخطُوطاتِ الأصليةِ لأعمالِ يعقوب صنوع، وعملَ على نَشرِها لأولِ مرَّة.

بعدَ أنْ عرَفَ الثراءُ طريقَهُ إلى أُسرةِ التاجِرِ السكندريِّ «إبراهيم»، تَبدَّلتْ أحوالُ زوجتِهِ وتغيَّرتْ طباعُها تمامًا، فلمْ تَعُدْ سيدةَ المنزلِ الطَّيبةَ القنوعةَ تلك، بل أصبحَتْ تَحضرُ حفلاتِ المُجتمعِ الراقِي وتحرِصُ على تتبُّعِ المُوضةِ وتقليدِ العاداتِ الإفرنجيَّة، كما تعلَّمتِ الفرنسيةَ وفرَضَتْ على أُسرتِها استخدامَها حتى داخلَ المنزل. وقد رأتْ أن تضُمَّ إلى ثرائِهِم الحديثِ نفوذًا وألقابًا رنَّانة، فسعَتْ لتزويجِ ابنتِها الوحيدةِ الجميلةِ «عديلة» لابنِ كونتٍ فرنسيٍّ سليلِ أحدِ الأُسَرِ العريقة، فهيَ ترى أنَّ خطيبَها الأولَ كاتبٌ فقيرٌ لا يُناسِبُ وَضعَهُم الجديد. صحيحٌ أنَّ «عديلة» تُحبُّهُ بكلِّ جوارِحِها، ولكنَّ هذا لا يُهِم. وأمامَ تسلُّطِ والِدتِها وضَعفِ شخصيةِ أبيها، لا تجدُ «عديلة» سبيلًا للزواجِ بمَن تُحبُّ إلَّا القيامَ بخُدعةٍ طريفة.

About the Author: Yacoub Sanoua: A prominent Egyptian writer and literary critic. He is considered one of the pioneers and founders of the modern Egyptian theater and satirical press. That was in the second half of the nineteenth century AD. He was known as “Abu Nazara”, and Khedive Ismail called him “Moliere of Egypt”. Yacoub bin Rafael Sanoua was born in Cairo in 1839 AD. He received his primary education in Cairo, and was able to master many languages, including Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish, French and Italian. He was sent on a study mission to Italy at the expense of the Egyptian government, and there he studied arts, literature, political economy, and international law during three years from 1853 to 1855, and he was given the opportunity to gain a special knowledge of culture; Where he was acquainted with the works of the most important playwrights, especially “Molière”, “Goldoni” and “Sheridan”. In the year 1870 AD, he established a theater group to present his plays in Cairo, and his plays were performed at the Azbakeya Hall theatre. He continued to show his plays for two years until he presented a play entitled “Homeland and Freedom”, in which he ridiculed the corruption of the palace and the ruling regime. The Khedive became angry with him and ordered the closure of his theater and his exile to France. In addition to his theatrical works, “Yacoub Sanoua” published many satirical political newspapers, the most important of which is “Abu Nazara Zarqa” in 1866 AD, in which he criticized the rule of Khedive Ismail, and when he was exiled to France, he continued to publish our newspaper, or he published it in the name of Egyptian National. He also published “Abu Zamara”, “The Islamic World”, and “Al-Thartharah Al-Masrya”, and established two scholarly literary societies, the first of which he named “Mahfl Al-Taqdum”, and the other “Mahfl Mohebi”. مَسْرحيةٌ كوميديةٌ غِنائيةٌ باللَّهجةِ العامِّية، تَسرُدُ حكايةَ العاشقِ البَربريِّ «أبو ريدة» ومعشوقتِه «كعب الخير». تُلقِي المَسْرحيةُ الضوءَ على مِهْنةِ «الخاطِبة» أو «الدلَّالة» الَّتي كانَت شائعةً قديمًا في مِصر؛ إذْ تمثِّلُ الخاطبةُ «مبروكة» حلقةَ الوصلِ بينَ السيدِ «نخلة» والسيدةِ «بنبة» التي يريدُ الزواجَ مِنْها، وتتوسَّطُ بينَهما لخلقِ جوٍّ لطيفٍ مِن أَجلِ التعارُف، ولا يقفُ الأَمرُ عندَ هذا الحد، بلْ تتوسَّطُ السيدةُ «بنبة» و«مبروكة» أيضًا لإقناعِ «كعب الخير» خادمةِ السيِّدةِ «بنبة» بحبِّ «أبو ريدة» لها، ولكنَّهما تَفشلانِ في إقناعِها، بينَما تتمسَّكُ هيَ بعِنادِها وغَيْرتِها الطُّفوليَّة؛ إذ تظنُّ أنَّ «أبو ريدة» لا يُحبُّها ويحبُّ «بخيتة» خادمةَ الجِيران. لكنْ هل سيُثبِتُ «أبو ريدة» حبَّه ﻟ «كعب الخير»، أم سيَتْركُها لعِنادِها وغَيْرتِها؟
