Author: Youssef Zidan
About the Author: A university professor, Egyptian writer and philosopher, specializing in the Arabic manuscript heritage and its sciences. He has several books and scientific research in Islamic thought, mysticism, and the history of Arab medicine. He has literary contributions to published novels, and he has periodical and non-periodic articles in a number of Arab newspapers. He worked as director of the Manuscript Center in Alexandria in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. يقول الدكتور يوسف زيدان واصفًا الكتاب ومحتواه: تضمُّ صفحاتُ هذا الكتاب، تأملاتٍ متواليةً استغرقتُ فيها لأوقاتٍ طوالٍ، محدِّقاً فى (المفردات) التى تجرى على الألسنة. وهى مفرداتٌ تبدو للوهلة الأولى محدودةَ الدلالة بسيطة المعنى ، غير أن التأمل فيها، يكشف عن الكثير من المعانى المضمرة، والشواهد المؤكِّدة أن (التواصل) بين المراحل الثقافية المتعاقبة، إنما يظهر على استحياءٍ وعلى نحوٍ من الغموض، فى عديد من الدلائل التى تخفيها اللغة بين طيَّات كلماتها وتعبيراتها. ولذلك، فالناسُ فى بلادنا تجرى على ألسنتهم كلمات، معظمها عامىٌّ وبعضها فصيحٌ ، يستعملونها فى حياتهم بيسرٍ وتلقائيةٍ (وأحياناً باستهانة) من دون أن يدروا بما تخفيه الكلمة بين حروفها من معنى عميق ، بل طبقات متراكبة من المعانى ، تراكمت بفعل الامتداد الطويل لتاريخنا الثقافى… ننظر فى الكلمات فنراها أبواباً واسعة للفهم، وسُبلاً فسيحة للمعرفة. سواءٌ كانت معرفة ظاهرة بوضوح فى الألفاظ، أو معارف دقيقة ومدهشة، كامنة فى الكلمات، على ما سوف نراه فى (موضوعات) هذا الكتاب…وتضم صفحات هذا الكتاب ، أطرافاً متنوعة تسعى لتبيان معانى (كلمات) خصَّصنا لكل كلمة منها فصلاً قد يطول أو يقصر، بحسب ما يلزمه الغوص فى طبقات المعانى المحتجبة خلف هذه الكلمة أو تلك ، مهما كانت قليلة الحروف. مثلما هو الحال فى كلمة بدء الوجود (كن) التى ابتدأنا بها فصول الكتاب.
