About the Author: Mohamed Ali Youssoufi is a Tunisian writer, born in the city of Beja on March 3, 1950. He studied primary and secondary levels in Tunisia, then traveled to the Arab East, where he completed his university studies at Damascus University and graduated from the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences. He pursued higher studies in the same specialty at the Lebanese University during the civil war. Meanwhile, he practiced translation, writing and cultural journalism in the most prominent Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian newspapers and magazines. He returned to Tunisia to settle there after twenty years, eight of which were on the island of Cyprus.

صار الجدّ يرى كوابيس كثيرة في نومه. وها هو ذا يطلب من ابنه أن يجهز السيارة، ليرافقه إلى مكان لم يحدّده. وعندما ألح الابن على معرفة المكان المجهول، اكتفى الجد بالقول: الجبل. *** لقد بلغَا الجبل فعلاً. تركا السفح وراءهما. لاح الجد خفيف العظام وهو يرتقي السفح، فأذهل ابنه. لكنه ما لبث أن بدأ يتنفس بصعوبة قرب القمة. قال الابن: “يكفي! يكفي! أنت مرهق!” لاح في الأثناء طفل يحمل مقلاعاً. قال إنه كان يصطاد الطيور والثعالب. سأله الجد: “وما فائدة المقلاع وحده في هذه الحال؟” أجاب الطفل: “وما أدراك أنت؟ عندي فخاخ دبقة موزعة على أطراف الجبل!” ظل طفل المقلاع يراقب الرجلين في صعودهما؛ ولم يكتف بالمراقبة، بل صار يقتفي خطواتهما عن بعد. – ماذا تريد؟ سأله الأب. – لا شيء. – إذن تستطيع أن تذهب! – بل أراقب فخاخي، حتى لا تدوسا عليها.
