About the Author: Mikhail Avanisevts Bulgakov, Russian novelist and playwright, born on May 15, 1891, in Kyiv and died on March 10, 1940 in Moscow. He worked as a doctor best known for the novel The Master and Margarita, which was published three decades after his death. The writer was born in the family of a professor at the Kyiv Religious Academy. He lived his childhood and youth in Kyiv. Kyiv will enter into Bulgakov’s creativity as a city in the novel of the White Guard, where it will not only be the setting of the event, but also an expression of a deep sense of family and homeland (as in his article “Kyiv-City” 1923). He joined the medical faculty of Kyiv University in 1909 and graduated in 1916 with a degree as a medical doctor with distinction. The main theme of Bulgakov’s satirical essays, stories and anecdotes in the 1920s was, as he put it, “those innumerable atrocities and distortions in our daily life”—the many distortions of human nature that occurred under the influence of the social upheaval that became a reality (“Satanic Show”). in 1924, “Deadly Eggs” in 1925). In the same direction, the writer’s satirical mind goes in his satirical novel “The Heart of a Dog” in 1925, which was first published in 1987). All these signs – warnings were for some of his contemporaries either a reason for admiration (Gorky saw in the story “Killing Eggs” – something funny) or a reason for refusing to publish (Kamenev saw in “A Dog’s Heart”: “a scathing satire of the era, and therefore it is not permissible to published in any way). It was in these mentioned stories that the uniqueness of Bulgakov’s satirical literary style became clear. As for the boundary between the early Bulgakov and the mature Bulgakov, was his novel The White Guard, which Y. Legnev published its two parts in the magazine “Russia” in 1925 (the novel was printed in full for the first time in the Soviet Union in 1966, and this novel was the most beloved of works for the writer’s heart. Later on, Bulgakov, in cooperation with the Moscow Art Theater MKHAT, prepared the play “Days of the Turbins”, depending on Based on the text of the novel “The White Guard” (1926). It is precisely this play (which can be considered a standalone literary work) that made Bulgakov famous. Indeed, the play was a resounding success with the audience. However, critics attacked the play and its writer, accusing the writer of anti-Sovietism and sympathy. With the white movement, and as a result of the focused attacks on the play, they were forced in the MKHAT theater in 1929 to withdraw the play from the program of performances (it was shown again in 1932).. Thus, the success of directing and the repeated attendance of the play by Stalin and his incomprehensible interest by the bureaucrats in managing theaters towards A “counter-revolutionary play” – all within the continuity of the play and consequently it was shown about a thousand times and with tickets sold out each time.As for the novel “The Master and Margarita” the writer gained international fame, but it did not become accessible to the public. I saw the Soviet Union only after a delay of three decades (the first abridged edition of the novel was published in the former Soviet Union only in 1966). Bulgakov consciously wrote the novel so that it is a concluding work that includes all the motifs contained in his previous creations and the contents of the course of Russian and world classical literature
