About the Author: A great Egyptian writer and novelist, he is a prominent figure in the Sharkia Governorate and has many contributions to literature. He is from the Abaza family, one of the oldest families in Egypt. It is a literary family that presented giants of Arabic literature, headed by his father, the writer Desouki Abaza, his uncle, the poet Aziz Abaza, and his uncle, the great writer Fikri Abaza. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Fouad I University in 1950, and began his working life as a lawyer. He began his literary life at the age of sixteen, which is an early start, and turned to writing short stories and radio dramas, and his name began to be repeated on the radio. He was editor-in-chief of the Radio and Television Magazine in 1974, and headed the literary section of Al-Ahram newspaper between 1975 and 1988 and continued to write in the same newspaper until his death. He also served as president of the Writers’ Union. He held the position of Under-Secretary of the Shura Council, as well as a member of the Supreme Council for Culture, the Specialized National Councils, the Board of Trustees of the Radio and Television Union, an honorary president of the Modern Literature Association, and a member of the International PEN Club. Tharwat Abaza wrote several stories and novels, a number of which were turned into films and television series. He also wrote more than forty radio plays, forty short stories and twenty-seven long novels. He also received several awards, including the State Encouragement Award in 1958, the Medal of Science and Arts of the first class, and the State Appreciation Award in Literature in 1982. On March 17, 2003, he died after a long struggle with illness due to a malignant tumor in the stomach.

«وتنغلق الطُّرق على ابن عمار، فيَبلغ الغيظُ أقصاه بالمعتمد، فيُمسِك بقطعةٍ من حديد ذات مقبض كان قد أعدَّها، ويَهوِي بها على رأس ابن عمار، ثم لا يزال يضرب ويضرب حتى يموت ابن عمار بيدِ المعتمد، بيدِ صداقةِ خمسة وعشرين عامًا، بيدِ المَجد الذي اقتعده، بيدِ القمة التي ساوَرَها.» عاش «أبو محمد ابن عمار» حياتَه طولًا وعرضًا مُنافقًا مادحًا كاذبًا، يأكل بكلمته، ويعيش على فُتاتٍ يأخذه جزاءَ ما يلفظه شعرًا، يمدح التجارَ ليجد قُوتَ يومه، ثم ينتقل إلى الأندلس، فيقصد «المعتضد» بعد أن علم حُبه للشعر، ويصادِق ولدَه «المعتمد بن عباد» فيُقربه حتى يصبح في منزلة أخيه، يُنشِده «ابن عمار» شعره مادحًا، ويُغدِق عليه «المعتمد» من عطاياه أموالًا وعزًّا ومكانة، حتى صار وزيرًا له بعد تنصيبه مَلكًا على الأندلس، ثم خانه واستقلَّ بمرسية؛ إحدى ولايات الأندلس، بعد تخطيطٍ ودهاء وخداع لصديقه «المعتمد»، فانتهى أمره بالسجن جزاءَ ما فعل، حتى حنَّ «المعتمد» إلى مجلسه، لكنها الخيانةُ تَسري فيه مَسرى الدم، فقتله «المعتمد» بعد أن أفشى سرَّ حنينه إليه.
