The writings and research of Dr. Emara, which enriched the Arab library, which amounted to (200) authors, were characterized by innovative and revival points of view, and to contribute to intellectual problems, and to try to present a civilized renaissance project for the Arab and Islamic nation in the stage in which it lives. معرفة الذات ضرورة، من خلالها ندرك دوافعنا والعوامل المؤثرة في قراراتنا وسلوكنا، وهي المدخل لبناء علاقات إيجابية مع الآخرين، ويقدم الكتاب منهجاً جديداً لمعرفة الذات والغير، باعتماد فرضية انطواء شخصية الإنسان على ثنائية من الفكر والقيم والمبادئ، واخترت للأولى مسمى الصياد وللثانية المزارع، والمصطلحان مستمدان من تاريخ البشرية. في البدء كان الإنسان صياداً، عاش على الصيد والتقاط الجذور والثمار، وبعد اكتشافه الزراعة قبل حوالي عشرة ألاف سنة أصبح مزارعاً، وما تزال الزراعة مصدر غذاءه الرئيسي، وترتبط بكل نمط إنتاج حزمة من القيم والاتجاهات والسلوك. كل واحد منا صياد ومزارع في نفس الوقت، تتمثل فيه صفات الصياد من أنانية وحب للذات وتنافس وعدوانية وطلب للقوة والسيطرة والمكانة الاجتماعية الرفيعة، كما لا تخلو شخصيته من خصائص المزارع النمطية التي تشمل التعاون والتعاطف والإيثار والإحسان، ويتأثر فكرنا وسلوكنا بقدر تطبعنا بقيم الصياد أو المزارع. يتبين من استعراض سريع لتاريخ البشرية هيمنة الصياد على مجتمعاتنا في الماضي والحاضر، فهو مثير الحروب ومؤسس الإمبراطوريات والطبقية الاجتماعية والعبودية والاستعمار، أما المزارع فلم يكتفي بدور التابع المفروض عليه من قبل الصياد، ووجد التبرير والعون والاسناد في المبادئ الأخلاقية والقيم الدينية الرحيمة، لكن حتى الأديان لم تسلم من نهم الصياد للسيطرة، وتفشي فكره العدواني والتكفيري والعنصري والطبقي في بعض الأديان أدى إلى صيرورتها بوجهين: أحدهما إنساني والثاني عدواني، والفلسفة أيضاً ناصرت الشقين من الشخصية البشرية، وبينما اعتبر بعض الفلاسفة الأنانية والعدوانية وغيرها من الصفات المصنفة ضمن نموذج الصياد هنا بالإيجابية استهجنها فلاسفة آخرون، ودعوا إلى استبدالها بقيم التعاون والإيثار والتعاطف الضرورية للحفاظ على السلم الاجتماعي وسعادة الأفراد، وهذه الثنائية حاضرة بصورة أو أخرى في نتائج البحوث الاجتماعية والنفسية، التي نستعرض بعضها في الكتاب. يتحكم الصياد والمزارع في نظرتنا للآخرين وتكوين علاقات معهم، ومن الواضح تفوق المزارع في هذا المجال، لكن للصياد دور بارز وقوي أيضاً، وبينما يسعى المزارع للتآلف بين الناس يفرقهم الصياد بالاستغلال والفكر الإقصائي والسلوك العدواني، ولأن الغلبة للصياد تتدهور علاقاتنا الشخصية ومؤسساتنا الاجتماعية وتسود الفرقة بيننا، وفي تطبيق الثنائية المقترحة على الزواج نتوصل إلى نتائج مفيدة حول عوامل نجاح الزواج والأسباب التي قد تؤدي به إلى الفشل والانفصال، كما أن للنموذجين الفكريين والسلوكيين تأثيرات على أنماط التربية. الصياد والمزارع حاضران في مجال العمل أيضاً، وفكر وقيم كل منهما مؤثرة، وإن بدرجات مختلفة، وفي معظم المؤسسات الربحية يفرض الصياد وجوده بالفكر والفعل، ولكن لا غنى لأي مؤسسة عن دور المزارع التعاوني، وهو صاحب التأثير الأكبر في المؤسسات اللاربحية والخيرية. ينطلق هذا الكتاب من اقتناع شخصي بالحاجة إلى تعزيز جانب المزارع في حياة كل واحد منا، ويتضمن الفصل الأخير استعراضاً للفوائد التي ستجنيها المجتمعات البشرية من وراء ذلك.
