نبذة النيل والفرات: كان تأثير الإحتكاك بالحضارة الغربية على الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر خلال القرن التاسع عشر وبداية القرن العشرين كبيراً، الأمر الذي أثر في كثير من المفكرين والمصلحين العرب الذين بدأوا في طلب الإصلاح السياسي والإجتماعي في المجتمع العربي. في عام 1899م، أصدر قاسم أمين كتاباً عن تحرير المرأة رأى فيه أن تخلف الدول الإسلامية يبدأ من الأسرة، العلاقة بين الرجل والمرأة، وبين الأم وطفلها، وليس هذا بسبب الإسلام لأن الشريعة وضعت قواعد المساواة بين الرجل والمرأة، ولكن المشكلة برأي أمين أتت من الشعوب التي اعتنقت الإسلام وفرضت عاداتها وتقاليدها. وكلنا نعلم سعي قاسم أمين في ذلك الوقت لإصلاح المجتمع بدءا من العلاقة بين الحاكم والمحكوم مرورا بقضايا المجتمع والعلم والأخلاق. ومثلما كان لقاسم أمين مؤيدون لفكره، كان له خصوم أو بمعنى آخر لا يجدون في فكره ما يوافق أو يتطابق مع شريعة الإسلام وذلك لتأثره بالثقافة الغربية وعلماؤها ومفكريها ومن هؤلاء مؤلف هذا الكتاب رئيس شعبة العقيدة بجامعة أم القرى بمكة وهو السيد “محمد قطب” الذي وجه نقدا لاذعا لفكر قاسم أمين في قضية تحرير المرأة. يقول محمد قطب: ” … ولم تكن (قضية المرأة) وحدها، وما نتج عنها من الفساد الخلقي، هي التي استخدمت في فك إرتباط المجتمع بجذوره الإسلامية، فقد كان الجهد المبذول شاملاً لجميع الميادين بلا استثناء، وإن كانت (قضية المرأة) والفساد الخلقي الناشىء من (التحرر)، من أفعل الوسائل في فك ذلك الإرتباط”. توزع الكتاب على عدد من المحاور نذكر منها: مغالطات قاسم أمين، قضية الحجاب والسفور، وضع المرأة في المجتمع الإسلامي …الخ.
