He also wrote about the currents of ancient and modern Islamic thought and about heritage figures such as Ghaylan Al-Dimashqi, and Al-Hasan Al-Basri. Among his last writings on modern thought: Religious Discourse between Islamic Renewal and American Change, and the West and Islam Where is the error… and where is the truth? And articles of religious and non-religious extremism, Islamic law and Western secularism, the book Our Future between Islamic Renewal and Western Modernity, the crisis of modern Islamic thought, intellectual creativity and cultural privacy, and many others. He has contributed to many specialized intellectual periodicals, participated in many seminars and scientific conferences, and was a member of a number of intellectual and research institutions, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Higher Institute of Islamic Thought. The writings and research of Dr. Emara, which enriched the Arab library, which amounted to (200) authors, were characterized by innovative and revival points of view, and to contribute to intellectual problems, and to try to present a civilized renaissance project for the Arab and Islamic nation in the stage in which it lives. He received many awards, honors, certificates of appreciation and shields, including the Friends of the Book Association award in Lebanon in 1972, the State Encouragement Award in Egypt in 1976, and the Order of the Islamic Intellectual Trend, the Founding Leader in 1998.

يرى د. عمارة أن التاريخ يعد “علم من علوم المستقبل وليس مجرد قصص لتزجية الفراغ والاستمتاع” حيث أنه إذا كان ما نملكه من اختيارات ومواريث يعين على الخلق والإبداع بالشكل الذي يدعم من النهضة الحضارية كان الربط بين تراثنا ودراساتنا المستقبلية مطلبا قوميا وضرورة من ضرورات النهضة وشرطا من شروطها. حاول المؤلف من خلال كتابه تقسيم البحث في علاقة التراث الإسلامي برسم مسارات المستقبل من خلال عدة فصول منها الحديث عن العقلانية الإسلامية، والاجتهاد والنهضة الحضارية، والعدل الاجتماعي، والشريعة والقانون، والتدين بين الشكل والمضمون، وطبيعة السلطة السياسية، والذي جاء فيه أن مواريث الأمم والشعوب تختلف بطبيعة السلطة السياسية في الدولة والمجتمع ومثال على ذلك المعروف عن تاريخ القيصرية الرومانية حيث كان القيصر “ابن السماء” وبالتالي كانت لسلطته وسلطانه قداسة الحاكم باسم السماء وذلك قبل اعتناق المسيحية . أيضاً في التاريخ العبرانى القديم كانت توجد سلطة الأنبياء والقضاة والملوك ووضح ذلك في العهد القديم كما وضح في تطبيقات العبرانيين حينما اقتنصوا من الدهر فترات قليلة أقاموا فيها لهم دولة وكيانا سياسيا. كما ناقش الكتاب في فصل “الصحوة الإسلامية” قضية الغلو في الدين وموقف الإسلام من الغلاة باعتباره من القضايا المثارة على الساحة العربية والإسلامية، مؤكداً على رفض الإسلام له في مواضع عدة في القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية، ويقول عمارة في الكتاب “ذهب البعض ويذهب إلى إلقاء وصف الغلو على تيارات فكرية إسلامية قديمة أو معاصرة لا لشىء إلا لأنها ترفض الواقع البائس والظالم الذي فرض على الإسلام والمسلمين فسعت وتسعى إلى الثورة عليه، وهنا يحدث الخلط بين الدين و الدنيا وبين الروحانيات والشعائر والعبادات وسياسة المجتمع وتنظيم دنيا الناس” طرح الكتاب من خلال فصل “العروبة والإسلام” موضوع الجدل حول “عروبة مصر” التي تثار بين الحين والآخر، وفيه يقول المؤلف “الذين يؤمنون بعروبة مصر قوميا يرون فيما بينها وبين بقية الشعب العربي شيئا يختلف في النوع عن ذلك الذي هو قائم بين الأمم والقوميات في أوروبا، فنحن هنا بإزاء قومية وأمة واحدة، مزقها الأعداء الداخليون أو الخارجيون، أو هما معا متحالفين، وعلى هذه الأمة أن تسعى إلى وحدتها القومية، لا أن تقف دولها عند حدود حسن الجوار أو التضامن الذي يحقق الأمن لدول الطوائف والتشرذم الإقليمية”. وعن وضع المرأة في الإسلام قدم المؤلف فصلين للحديث عن هذا الشأن، الأول تطرق إلى صورة المرأة فى صدر الإسلام والآخر عما يعنيه الإسلام بالنسبة لتحرر المرأة وتحريرها، كما خصص فصلا عن “حقوق الإنسان”. وفيه يتحدث عن أن الإسلام قد بلغ في الإيمان بالإنسان، وفى تقديس حقوقه إلى الحد الذي تجاوز به مرتبة الحقوق فأدخلها في إطار الواجبات، فالمأكل والملبس والمسكن والأمن والحرية في الفكر والاعتقاد.. إلخ، في نظر الإسلام ليست فقط حقوقا للإنسان، من حقه أن يطلبها، ويسعى إلى تلبيتها، ويتمسك بالحصول عليها، ويحرم صده من طلبها، وإنما هي واجبات لهذا الإنسان بل وواجبات عليه أيضا.

أنه أمر غريب وعجيب ؟! فالجدل الدائر حول حقوق المراة وحرياتها ، وعلاقة ذلك بالإسلام .. يلجأ القائمون به جميعاً – المؤيدون والمعارضون – إلى فكر العصور الوسطى والمظلمة ، وآراء فقهاء عصر المماليك والأتراك العثمانيين؟! وكان هذا الفكر لم يعرف حركة التجديد العملاقة التى أجتهدت لتجعل من فكرنا الإسلامى الحديث : الامتداد المتطورلعصر الإبداع والزدهار !.. ومن هنا تأتى أهمية هذا الكتاب، الذى يقدم رأي طليعة المجتهدين الإسلاميين فى عصرنا الحديث: الاستاذ افمام الشيخ محمد عبده .. فى موقف الإسلام من قضايا: 1- المساواة بين المراة والرجل 2- وتقييد الطلاق 3- ومنع تعدد الزوجات. اختار الكاتب الحديث مباشرة عن علاقة الرجل بالمرأة كما يراها الإمام، ومن خلال حديثه، عالج قضية المساواة بين الجنسين، فكشف النقاب عما شاب المسألة من لبس وما لفّها من غموض، وبيّن أن المساواة يجب أن تُفهم وفق طبائع الجنسين المختلفة، إذ الرجل والمرأة سواسية في التكليف وسواء في الحساب، ولا مجال لادعاء التنقيص من أحدهما، هكذا عالج الكاتب الإشكال من منطلق التصحيح صَوْنا للتآلف المطلوب بين الجنسين، فكان وهو يعرض هذه الآراء كمن يحيل على جوهر المشكل ومصدر الكدر في العلاقة، ولم يكن يُحدّث من تلقاء نفسه، وإنما كان يتكلم بآراء محمد عبده في المسألة، وينطق بالإشادة بما توصل إليه من خلاصات غاية في الحكمة، ويحيل على ما قدّم من نظر في الآيات غاية في العمق والدقة، وهكذا نقل أفكارا نيرة مما بُث في كتب الإمام، وفهوما تشهد بسبقه في التجديد وعلو كعبه في الاجتهاد، وتجعل من فهمه نبراسا يُذهب العتمة التي ضيعت معالم السمو في العلاقة بين الرجل والمرأة. ومن قضية المساواة انتقل الكاتب إلى قضية أخرى ميّزت نظر الإمام، فكان له فيها رأي سديد وقول مفيد وكلام جامع، خصّه لموضوع الطلاق، وجعله تحت عنوان ” الطلاق بين الإطلاق والتقييد”. في مدخله إلى بسط رؤية الإمام كشف الكاتب عن حكمة الإسلام في التعاطي مع قضية الطلاق، وبيّن موقفه الحقيقي من فضّ الرباط الذي يجمع الزوجين، وذلك من خلال ما أورده من اجتهاداته في تفسير الآيات ذات الصلة بالموضوع، كما أنه نبّه -وهو يعرض تلك الآراء- إلى أن همّ عبده كان منصبا على آفة الطلاق لما لها من ضرر على تماسك المجتمع وقوّته، كما أن جهده كان يشي –حسب الكاتب دائما- بقوّة الطرح الذي يرجع فضله إلى موقعه المطلع، باعتباره باحثا اجتماعيا متخصصا، جعل من بين انشغالاته البحث عن مخرج لمصيبة الطلاق من خلال اجتهاد إسلامي يحفظ حياة العائلات من الضياع، ويضع حدا للاستهتار الذي لحق بميثاق الزواج، ويرفع الظلم الذي أوقعه انتشار الطلاق في العائلات حتى كاد يودي بحياة الأمة جميعا. فرأي الإمام -حسب الكاتب- أن الطلاق مقيّد في النص بوجوب التحكيم، ذلك أن القرآن الكريم جعل من تدخل “الحكمين” و”القاضي” – الذي يمثل ولي الأمر والدولة- صمّام أمان للأسرة وأمن للمجتمع من شأنه أن يزيح ذلك الشبح المخيف الذي يُهدّد البناء بالانتقاض.

حول ميشيل عفلق كتبت، قبل وفاته وبعدها، العديد من الكتب والدراسات، إلا أن الذين كتبوا على فكر ميشيل عفلق، سواء أكانوا من محبيه أم من الكارهين له، بعثيين أم غير بعثيين كانوا أم غير بعثيين، قد صمتوا صمتاً كاملاً أو شبه كامل عن دلالة أعناقه للإسلام، وأهم من ذلك صمتوا، بحسن نية أو بسوئها، عن الاهتمام بدراسة مسار الخط البياني لمكانة الإسلام في مشروعه الفكري وحياته النضالية. لقد أعلنت القيادة القومية لحزب البعث، في بيان نعيها للرجل أنه “قد اعتنق الإسلام ديناً” وكتبت مجلة “الوطن العربي”، وهي مجلة بعثية، أن “القيادة القومية قد أعلنت في بيان نعيها له، وأول مرة، عن مدى إدراك الراحل ميشيل عفلق للعلامة الجدلية بين الإسلام وبين العروبة، حيث قاده هذا الإيمان والفعل العميقان بترابط القومية بالدين في اعتناقه الإسلام، ديناً، ولم يرغب هو ولا رفاقه في القيادة في الإعلان عن ذلك، حرصاً منه وفهم على ألا يعطى لهذا الخيار أي تأويل سياسي. فأي إسلام كان ميشيل عفلق يعني عندما يكون حديثه عن مكانة الإسلام في المشروع القومي ومرجعيته في المشروع الحضاري وبعبارة أخرى: هل كان ميشيل عفلق، في حديثه عن مكانة الإسلام ومرجعيته في مشروعه الحضاري، يتبنى ويستدعي كامل الإسلام؟ أم أبعاداً بعينها، وقسمات بذاتها، وميادين خاصة من الإسلام، دون غيرها، من الإسلام؟! فالإسلام الإلهي ذو الجوانب الغيبية، يؤمن به ميشيل عفلق، لكنه لا يستدعيه مرجعاً في مشروعه الحضاري. والإسلام: الشريعة والقانون لا يؤمن ميشيل عفلق بضرورته إطاراً حاكماً للدولة القومية التي يدعو إليها، إنما هو يتبنى “علمانية الدولة” فيحررها من “قانون الإسلام” على حين قد رفض “علمانية القومية” التي تحررها من “تراث الإسلام”، والروح والروحانية عنده ليس لها البعد الغيبي، الذي لهما في “الإسلام العقيدة”، وإنما هي “الإرادة”… إرادة الأمة التي أثمرها “الدين” في “الحضارة الإسلامية” فالرجل مع اعترافه وإيمانه بالإسلام: الدين السماوي، والغيب من عقائده، إلا أنه لا يثنى في مشروعه الفكري والحضاري هذا الجانب الغيبي. انه يدعو إليه ويميزه ويراه ضرورياً، كشأن إيماني فردي، يحمي الإنسان من ضياع الإلحاد الذي يرفضه، لكنه يرى فيه شأناً فردياً وضرورة إنسانية يتساوى في تقديمهما للإنسان المتدين دين الإسلام مع غيره من الديانات الأخرى أما ما يستدعيه عفلق للمشروع الحضاري، ويتبناه مرجعاً في النهضة القومية والبعث العربي، ويراه “خصوصية إسلامية”، يتميز فيها ويمتاز بها الإسلام على غيره من الديانات، فهو “الإسلام: الحضاري” كما جسدته الأمة العربية عندما آمنت بدين السماء. الإسلام كتجربة بشرية أرضية متفاعلة ومؤمنة بدين الله ووحي السماء! تلك هي حدود وآفاق مصطلح “الإسلام” في المشروع الحضاري لميشيل عفلق، كما ستشهد عليها نصوصه، في صفات هذا الكتاب.
