About the Author: Ali Al-Tantawi (12 June 1909 – 18 June 1999) (23 Jumada al-Awwal 1327 AH – 4 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1420 AH) was a Syrian jurist, writer and judge. Head of the Higher Committee for Syrian Students in the thirties for three years. This student committee was the executive committee of the national bloc that was fighting the French colonization of Syria. He was a writer who wrote in many Arab newspapers for many years, the most important of which was what he wrote in the Egyptian Al-Resala magazine for its owner Ahmed Hassan Al-Zayat. He continued to write in it for twenty years from 1933 AD until the year 1953 was obscured. Since his youth, he worked in primary and secondary education in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon until the year 1940. He left education and entered the judiciary, where he spent twenty-five years as a judge in Al-Nabek and then in Douma, then moved to Damascus and became the excellent judge there (1943 – 1953 AD), and was transferred as an advisor to the Court of Cassation in the Levant, then as an advisor to the Court of Cassation in Cairo during the days of unity with Egypt. He was commissioned to draft a complete personal status law in 1947 AD and was dispatched to Egypt for a year to study new draft laws for inheritance, wills, and others. The entire draft personal status law was prepared and this draft became the basis for the current law.

أعلام التاريخ (عبد الرحمن بن عوف) 1979م – 1442هـ عبد الرّحمن بن عوف القرشيّ الزهريّ (43 ق.هـ – 32 هـ / 580 – 656م)، هو أحد الصحابة العشرة المبشرين بالجنة، ومن السابقين الأولين إلى الإسلام، وأحد الثمانية الذين سبقوا بالإسلام، وأحد الستة أصحاب الشورى الذين اختارهم عمر بن الخطاب ليختاروا الخليفة من بعده. كان اسمه في الجاهلية عبد عمرو، وقيل عبد الكعبة، فسماه النبي عبد الرحمن. وُلد عبد الرّحمن بن عوف بعد عام الفيل بعشر سنين، وكان إسلامه على يد أبي بكر الصديق، هاجر إلى الحبشة في الهجرة الأولى، ثم هاجر إلى المدينة، وشارك في جميع الغزوات في العصر النبوي، فشهد غزوة بدر وأحد والخندق وبيعة الرضوان، وأرسله النبي على سرية إلى دومة الجندل، وصلى النبي محمد وراءه في إحدى الغزوات، وكان عمر بن الخطاب يستشيره، وجعله عمر في الستة أصحاب الشورى الذين ذكرهم للخلافة بعده، وقال: «هم الذين توفي رسول الله وهو عنهم راض.» توفى سنة 32 هـ، وصلى عليه عثمان بن عفان، وحمل في جنازته سعد بن أبي وقاص ودفن بالبقيع عن خمس وسبعين سنة. كان عبد الرحمن تاجرًا ثريًا، وكان كريمًا، حيث تصدَّق في زمن النبي بنصف ماله والبالغ أربعة آلاف، ثم تصدق بأربعين ألفًا، واشترى خمسمائة فرس للجهاد، ثم اشترى خمسمائة راحلة، ولما حضرته الوفاة أوصى لكل رجل ممن بقي من أهل بدر بأربعمائة دينار، وأوصى لكل امرأة من أمهات المؤمنين بمبلغ كبير، وأعتق بعض مماليكه، وكان ميراثه مالًا جزيلًا.

This is what actually happened when the Turks repudiated the Islamic Caliphate after the Ataturk coup, turned to secularism, and cut the ties between them and Arabism and Islam. At that time, Arslan took another position. He began calling for Arab unity, and he was one of the most joyful people when the Arab League was founded in 1945 AD. When the Second World War ended, “Arslan” returned to his homeland at the end of 1946 AD, and soon died after a life full of suffering and struggle.

About the Author: Muhammad Abdo: An Islamic preacher and thinker. He is considered one of the most prominent figures of the modern Arab and Islamic renaissance. He was known for his reformist thought and his call for liberation from all forms of stagnation and backwardness that afflicted the Arab mind. Al-Azhar, Endowments and Sharia Courts. Muhammad Abdo Hassan Khairallah was born in 1849 AD in the village of Nasr in the Beheira Governorate, to a father of Turkmen origin and an Egyptian mother. His father sent him to the village clerks to receive his first lessons. When he completed fifteen, he joined the Ahmadi Mosque in Tanta, where he received the sciences of jurisprudence and the Arabic language. Then the imam moved to Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and continued to study there until he obtained the international certificate. He participated in Ahmed Orabi’s revolution against the British occupation in 1882 AD. He was sentenced to prison, then exiled to Beirut. After that, he traveled at the invitation of his teacher Jamal al-Din al-Afghani to Paris in 1884 AD, and he founded the newspaper “Al-Urwa al-Wuthqa” with him, but it did not continue to publish; As it caused trouble to the French and the English because of its constant criticism of colonialism and its call for liberation, then he returned to Beirut to study at the Royal School, and then had the opportunity to return to Egypt in 1889 AD, after Khedive Tawfiq pardoned him. After his return to Egypt, the imam worked in the judiciary, and then was assigned the position of mufti, to be the first mufti independent of his Sheikh Al-Azhar, after the custom was settled on assigning this position to the Sheikh of Al-Azhar. Muhammad Abdo had a wide influence in his cultural and political surroundings, where he was influenced by many thinkers and political leaders, among whom were his student, the noble scholar Rashid Rida, Sheikh Hassan Al-Banna, Sheikh Muhammad Mustafa Al-Maraghi, Sheikh Ali Abdel Razek, Saad Zaghloul, Qassem Amin, and Hafez Ibrahim. And Izz al-Din al-Qassam, Muhammad Lutfi Jumaa, and Taha Hussein. Muhammad Abdo also had critical contributions in defending Islam in front of those who attacked it from the Orientalists, such as: Ernest Renan and Hanuto. The imam also wrote the giant Russian writer Tolstoy, who was very pleased with this correspondence. In 1905 AD, the imam passed away after a struggle with cancer at the age of fifty-seven years.

About the Author: Muhammad Yusuf Musa: An Egyptian jurist and fundamentalist, and one of the pioneers of Al-Azhar. He was born in the city of Zagazig in the Sharqia Governorate in 1899 AD. He joined the writers and memorized the Qur’an when he was not more than thirteen, and he showed brilliance in memorizing what he recites, memorizing and reciting. He joined Al-Azhar to obtain a “world class”, and was subsequently appointed as a teacher at the Zagazig Al-Azhar Institute for three years, but his poor eyesight caused him several obstacles, so he was expelled from Al-Azhar. After that, he went to learn French in order to be able to study law and practice law. When Sheikh “Muhammad Mustafa Al-Maraghi” was appointed Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Muhammad Yusuf Musa returned to teaching at Al-Azhar after he achieved brilliance and fame in the legal profession. And a methodology unfamiliar to Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and he also began translating from French some studies related to philosophy and its history. Muhammad Yusuf went to France in 1938 to be close to the Western professors of philosophy, so he contacted the French orientalist “Macinius” and obtained his approval to be the supervisor of his study plan, and because of the outbreak of the second war and the world returned to France again. He received his doctorate from the Sorbonne University with the title “Religion and Philosophy in the View of Ibn Rushd and the Medieval Philosophers”. Mohamed Youssef was chosen as a member of the Metaphysics Committee in the Egyptian Linguistic Academy in Cairo, and he remained there until the end of his life. He is the author of several books on philosophy, ethics, legislation, Islamic history and jurisprudence, such as: “Considerations in the Philosophy of Ethics,” “The Philosophy of Ethics in Islam and its Links to Greek Philosophy,” “The Qur’an and Philosophy,” and “Among the Philosophers.” He has several articles and studies published in Egyptian magazines and newspapers, which he collected in a book entitled “Islam and Life”. Muhammad Yusuf Musa died on August 8, 1963 AD.

الإمامُ المجتهد «أبو حنيفة النعمان» صاحبُ مدرسةٍ فقهية ذات شأنٍ ومكانةٍ في الفكر الإسلامي، وربما من عوامل تميُّزها أن صاحبها وعى قضايا عصره وما كان من ظروف بيئته السياسية والاجتماعية، ومنها أيضًا تفهُّمه المستجداتِ التي نشأت مع اتساع رقعة الدولة الإسلامية ودخول الناس في دِين الله أفواجًا، لتتبلورَ ثقافة تلك الدولة التي سرعان ما تواصَلت مع الثقافات الأجنبية الأخرى؛ خاصةً مع حركة الترجمة النَّشِطة إلى العربية التي شجَّعها الخلفاء العباسيون. في الحقيقة كان عصر «أبي حنيفة» ثريًّا بحوادثه السياسية؛ فقد عايَش الدولةَ الأُموية ونشوء دعوة العباسيين التي تُوِّجت بإعلان خلافتهم، وما صاحَب ذلك أو سبقه من ظهورِ اتجاهاتٍ فكرية وفلسفية ودينية جديدة؛ وهي عواملُ مهمة لا بد أنها قد أثَّرت في التكوين الفكري والإنساني للفقيه العلَّامة «أبي حنيفة النعمان»، وكانت ذات تأثير في منهجه. سنتعرَّف على ذلك وأكثر خلال رحلتنا القصيرة بين صفحات هذا الكتاب.
