Author: Jonathan Swift

About the Author: Jonathan Swift is an Irish writer, political critic, and clergyman. He published many books and literature, the most important and most famous of which was “Gulliver’s Travels”, which includes four parts.
Jonathan Swift, one of the first critics of the English language, was a noted political writer, poet, and clergyman. He was born in Ireland and lost his father at an early age to be taken care of by his uncle.
With the beginnings of the glorious revolution in Ireland he was forced to emigrate to England, where he worked with Sir William Temple and got to experience a life of luxury and power. At a young age, he often moved between Ireland and England, and Swift entered the Church of Ireland at the same time as his poor cousin in the Church of England.
When he returned to Ireland he held the position of Dean of Saints at Patrick’s Cathedral and continued to do so until his death. As a writer, he wrote most of his works under pseudonyms, and today we mention his best satirical prose work, Gulliver’s Travels.
Gulliver’s Travels, his most famous work, was first published on September 28, 1726 and modified in 1735, and it is considered a classic English literature, and many were mistaken in thinking that it was a children’s book and in fact it was satirical prose. He mocks not only British policy against the Irish but also the oppression of the poor.|Swift lived for a long time in Trim, and a frequent satirical festival called the Trim Swift Festival was held.

The Invisible Man book pdf download By Herbert George Wells

The Invisible Man is a novella by H.G. Wells. The Invisible Man of the title is Griffin, a scientist who has devoted himself to research into optics and invents a way to change a body’s refractive index to that of air so that it absorbs and reflects no light and thus becomes invisible. He successfully carries out this procedure on himself, but fails in his attempt to reverse the procedure. When he attempts to enlist the aid of former acquaintance, he is betrayed. So Griffin decides to murder his betrayer and begin a “Reign of Terror.” The narrative opens in the English village of Iping, West Sussex, with the arrival during a snowstorm of a mysterious stranger at the local inn, The Coach and Horses. The stranger wears a long-sleeved, thick coat, and gloves, his face hidden entirely by bandages, large blue goggles and a wide-brimmed hat. He demands to be left alone and spends most of his time in his rooms working with a set of chemicals and laboratory apparatus, only venturing out at night.

The War of the Worlds book pdf download By Herbert George Wells

Introduction by Arthur C. Clarke Commentary by Jules Verne and an anonymous reviewer from The Critic “No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man’s and yet as mortal as his own.” Thus begins one of the most terrifying and morally prescient science fiction novels ever penned. Beginning with a series of strange flashes in the distant night sky, the Martian attack initially causes little concern on Earth. Then the destruction erupts–ten massive aliens roam England and destroy with heat rays everything in their path. Very soon humankind finds itself on the brink of extinction. H. G. Wells raises questions of mortality, man’s place in nature, and the evil lurking in the technological future–questions that remain urgently relevant in the twenty-first century. He wrote more than 20,000 letters and 2,000 books and pamphlets.Voltaire was one of the first authors to become renowned and commercially successful internationally. He was an outspoken advocate of civil liberties and was at constant risk from the strict censorship laws of the Catholic French monarchy. His polemics witheringly satirized intolerance, religious dogma, and the French institutions of his day. His best-known work and magnum opus, Candide, is a novella which comments on, criticizes, and ridicules many events, thinkers, and philosophies of his time.

Voltare. Candide and Other Stories book pdf download By Voltaire

Candide is the most famous of Voltaire’s “philosophical tales,” in which he combined witty improbabilities with the sanest of good sense. First published in 1759, it was an instant bestseller and has come to be regarded as one of the key texts of the Enlightenment. What Candide does for chivalric romance, the other tales in this selection–Micromegas, Zadig, The Ingenu, and The White Bull–do for science fiction, the Oriental tale, the sentimental novel, and the Old Testament. The most extensive one-volume selection currently available, this new edition includes a new verse translation of the story Voltaire based on Chaucer’s The Wife of Bath’s Tale: What Pleases the Ladies. Opening with a revised introduction that reflects recent critical debates and including a new section on Voltaire’s verse, this edition also features updated translations, revised notes, and an updated bibliography.
