About the Author: An Egyptian novelist and short story writer, born in 1947 in the Gharbia Governorate, specifically the city of Mahalla al-Kubra. He obtained a diploma from the Commercial Technical Preparation Institute. He began his literary career in 1984 with the publication of his first collection of stories entitled “The Ugly and the Rose” by Dar Shahdi. This was followed by the publication of nearly 6 collections of stories, their titles varied: “The Taste of Carnations”, “Silver Bird” and “The Suppression of the Passion”, as well as Tales of the Prophet’s Sweet Neighborhood, and the City Quartet, in addition to writing many stories and radio and television representations for children.
He has published several collections of short stories and novels, including: The Ugly and the Rose – Short Stories – Dar Shahdi 1984 – The Taste of the Carnation.

About the Author: Samir Naqqash is an Iraqi novelist, short story writer, and playwright, born in Baghdad in 1938, emigrated to Israel and died in 2004. Samir Naqqash is the first of six children born to a wealthy Iraqi Jewish family. He attended school at the age of 4 and started writing at the age of 6.

About the Author: In 1951, when he was 13 years old, he and his family immigrated to Israel, his father died in 1953 of a brain hemorrhage while his family was in the refugee camps in which Oriental Jews were placed coming to Israel, and this had a strong impact on him, which made him resolve to leave Israel.

About the Author: He moved from 1958 to 1962 between Turkey, Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, India, and the United Kingdom. And he faced great difficulties, which forced him to return to Israel, where he took various jobs.

About the Author: In 1970, he joined the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, obtaining a BA in Arabic literature. He was well known in the Arab world and among the Iraqi community in Israel, but only one of his works was translated into Hebrew.

About the Author: Naccache won an award from the Israeli Prime Minister for Arabic literature.

About the Author: In 1990 he moved to London to settle there. Samir Naqqash died on July 7, 2004 at the age of 66, with pain within him due to his leaving Iraq, as he considered himself to have died when he was thirteen years old, as he saw that his real life was limited to those years he spent in Iraq and that which followed. About the Author: Salwa Bakr (born 1949) is an Egyptian critic, novelist and author. She was born in the Matariya district of Cairo in 1949. Her father worked in the railways. She studied Business Administration at Ain Shams University and obtained her BA in 1972. She received another BA in Literary Criticism in 1976, before embarking on a career in journalism. She worked as a film and theater critic in many Arab newspapers and magazines. Bakr lived in Cyprus for a few years with her husband before returning to Egypt in the mid-1980s.

About the Author: Salwa Bakr’s father died early, leaving her mother a poor widow. Her work often deals with the lives of the poor and marginalized. In his collection of short stories for Arab writers, Serbian literary critic Srbko Lestaric wrote: “Part of Salwa Bakr’s popularity lies in being a force in opposition to conservative voices who challenge her work because they feel threatened by it.” In particular, many of her stories deal with the problems of women from different social levels in Egyptian society, as evidenced by the stories told by female prison inmates in her novel The Golden Chariot.

About the Author: In 1985, she published her first collection of short stories, Zinat at the President’s Funeral, which was an instant success. She has published several collections of short stories and novels since then. Her first novel in 1993 was entitled Description of the Nightingale (Description of the Nightingale).

About the Author: Bensalem Himmich (born in 1948 in Meknes) is a Moroccan novelist, poet and philosopher with a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Paris, who teaches at the Mohammed V University, Rabat. He served as Minister of Culture from 29 July 2009 to 3 January 2012.
