طريق ازدحم بالأزهار المتباينة الألوان الأحمر والأبيض والأصفر والوردي.. وأراض حرثت وازدانت وتخلصت من أعشابها وحشائشها استعدادا لزفافها إلى البذور والحبوب التى تلقى في أحضانها.. أراض شاسعة خلت من كل شئ إلا من بقايا “الخسك” التى عاندت وصارعت أصابع المحراث فلم تمت إلا وقد تركت على الأرض دلائل انتصارها.. هذه الفروع الباقية هى التذكرة التى مرت امام الراوي في قصتنا هذه لتتدفق رواية “تولستوى” التى تقع أحداثها في بلاد القوقاز التى لا نعلم عنها الكثير.. يروى احداث الحروب التى اشتعلت نيرانها بين المسلمين والقوات الروسية..إثر اعتراض المسلمينن على مظاهر بذخ خيالي يتمرغ به سكان القصور القيصرية، وفقر واحوال معيشية سيئة يعانيها السكان في الجبال..هذه الحروب التىكان قائدها “شامل” وبطلها “الحاج مراد” لم يكتبها “تولستوي” تاريخا حدث بالفعل بقدر ما كتبها لترصد واقعا وبشرا وبطولات وموت يرقد ويختفي من ثنايا تفاصيل الحياة. أنها رواية كتبها الأديب العظيم “يوليستوي” بصدقه المعهود فاظهر أشخاصها المسلمين بصورتهم الحقيقة التى عايشها بنفسه عدد من السنين وبين الظلم الفادح الذي وقع على أهل هذه البلاد.
