About the Author: Khairy Ahmed Shalaby was born in the village of Shabas Omair, Qalin Center, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate. He passed away on the morning of Friday 9-9 2011, at the age of 73. Khairy Shalaby is an Egyptian writer and novelist with seventy books, one of his most prominent works is the Al-Watad series, based on a story of the same name, starring the late Egyptian actress Hoda Sultan in the main role of “Fatima Talaba”. The pioneer of historical fantasy in the contemporary Arab novel, and his novel The Travels of Al-Tarshaji Al-Halluji is a unique work in its chapter Khairy Ahmed Shalaby, born in the village of Shabas Omair, Qalin Center, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate. Recipient of the First Prize of the Writers Union for Merit in 2002. Recipient of Naguib Mahfouz Medal Award from the American University in Cairo for the novel “Wekalat Attia” 2003. Recipient of the Best Arabic Book Award from the Cairo Book Fair for the novel “Cisterns of Pearls” 2002. Recipient of the State Appreciation Award in Literature 2005. Nominated by the Canadian Embassy for the Nobel Prize in Literature. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the Poetry Magazine (Ministry of Information). Editor-in-chief of the series: Library of Popular Studies (Ministry of Culture).
