Where he used to write articles and send them to Fosoul magazine, and he was also translating some topics for them. Al-Akkad is considered one of the most important writers of the twentieth century in Egypt. He contributed greatly to the literary and political life, and added to the Arabic library more than a hundred books in various fields. Al-Akkad succeeded in journalism. This is due to his encyclopedic culture, as he used to write both poetry and prose, and he was known to be an encyclopedist of knowledge, reading in human history, philosophy, literature and sociology.
He was famous for his literary and intellectual battles with the poet Ahmed Shawky, Dr. Taha Hussein, Dr. Zaki Mubarak, the writer Mustafa Sadiq Al-Rafi’i, the Iraqi Dr. Mustafa Jawad, and Dr. Aisha Abdul Rahman (Bint Al-Shati). He also disagreed with his fellow poet Abdul Rahman Shukri, and issued a book of Authored by Al-Mazni with the title Al-Diwan, in which he attacked the Prince of Poets, Ahmed Shawky, and laid the rules for his poetry school. Al-Akkad died in Cairo in 1964.

ثلاثُمائة وخمسٌ وستون خاطرةً موزَّعةً على أيام العام، لم تكن «شوارد» بقدر ما كانت «شواهد» على قدرة صاحبها على الإمساك بالفكرة العابرة وتسجيلها بأريحيَّة بارعة وصدق بالغ. في الحادي عشر من أبريل سنة ١٩٥٠م بدأ «عبد الوهاب عزَّام» تدوين خاطرته الافتتاحية حاثًّا نفسه وقارئه على مباراة الأيام ومسابقة الزمان في نصرة الحقِّ وتحقيق النَّفع، وهكذا فعل. فرغم انشغالات المؤلِّف العظيمة باحثًا ومترجمًا وناظمًا، فضلًا عن أعبائه الدبلوماسيَّة كسفير لمصر في الخارج، إلا إنه استطاع أن يدوام على كتابة خاطراته يوميًّا طوال عام كامل، وكان يُعوِّض أوَّلًا بأوَّل ما يفوته تدوينه في حينه، حتَّى اختتمها في ١٠ أبريل سنة ١٩٥١م. في شوارد عزَّام نطالع ما يمكن أن نَعُده مذكِّرات شخصية: آراء نقديَّة أدبيَّة واجتماعيَّة وسياسيَّة، وحكمة رجلٍ مثقَّف من الطراز الرفيع.

During his medical school years, he participated in many demonstrations against the British colonialists and the regime of King Farouk. In 1951, he became the Executive Secretary of the Students’ Defense Committee, then the Secretary of the Students’ Committee. In this capacity he published revolutionary magazines and was imprisoned and suspended for several months. While studying medicine, he tried to write his first short story, which was very popular among his colleagues. He worked as a doctor at Al-Qasr Al-Aini from 1951-1960; He tried to practice psychiatry in 1956, health inspector, then journalist editor in the Republic, 1960, writer for Al-Ahram newspaper, 1973 until 1982. «إنَّ الأبَ هوَ البطلُ في نظرِ أبنائِهِ وبناتِهِ وزَوجتِه، اختَرْ أيَّ طفل؛ فقيرًا كانَ أو غنيًّا، راضيًا عنْ أبيهِ أو ساخِطًا، واسألْهُ أنْ يَختارَ مِن بينِ كلِّ الناسِ بطَلًا يَتبعُهُ ويُطيعُه، وستجدُهُ يَختارُ بالفِطرةِ بطلَه: أَبَاه.» مَثَّلَ الأبُ عمودَ الخيمةِ في جُلِّ الحضاراتِ القَديمةِ والثَّقافاتِ الحَديثة، فبهِ تجتمعُ الأُسرَةُ، وبهِ أيضًا تتشتَّت، وبهِ تَنعَمُ، وأحيانًا تَشْقى. و«الأبُ الغائِب» مَقالٌ اختاره «يوسف إدريس» من بين مجموعةِ مقالاتٍ أُخرى يَضُمُّها هذا الكتابُ عُنوانًا لَه، ويُناقِشُ فيه واحدةً مِن أكبرِ المُشكِلاتِ الاجتِماعيَّةِ التي تؤثِّرُ في المجتمعِ المِصريِّ منذُ سبعينياتِ القرنِ الماضِي حتَّى الآن؛ وهي غيابُ الأبِ عن أُسرتِهِ بَحثًا عنْ لُقمةِ العيش. وكما عَهِدْنا «يوسف إدريس» في مَقالاتِه، نجدُ رأيَه يَنسابُ بينَ الحُروفِ بلا تكلُّفٍ أو تسلُّط؛ فعندَ حديثِه عَنِ القضايا الاجتماعيَّةِ نجدُ تَجسيدًا لمُشكلاتِنا اليوميَّة، وعندَ مُناقشتِه القَضايا السياسيةَ نجدُ حِرصَه على عدمِ الخَوضِ في معاركَ جَوْفاء، وعندَ حديثِه عنْ قَضايا الوطنِ العربيِّ نجدُه ابنَ العُروبةِ البارَّ الذي لا يَفتأُ أنْ يَنصَحَ ولا يَجرَح، وعندَ حديثِه عنْ ذكرياتِهِ الشخصيةِ تجدُ أنفسَنا وقدْ اسْتَغْرَقْنا في تَفاصيلِ حياتهِ دونَ مَلَل.
