عن الكتاب: لم يكد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ينتقل إلى الرفيق الأعلى حتى ظهر تنبؤ آخر في بني أسد، فأعلن طليحة أنه نبي وجعل يهذى لقومه كما هذي صاحباه بالسجع، ويزعم أنه يتنزل عليه من السماء. ثم لم يقف الأمر عند هذا الحد بل تنبأت امرأة في بني تميم -وهي سجاح- كانت نازلة في بني تغلب، فلما استأثر بها شيطان السجع أسرعت إلى قومها من تميم فأغوت منهم خلقاً كثيراً. وكذلك نفست قحطان على عدنان أن يكون لها نبي من دونها، فظهر فيها الأسود العنسى، ونفست ربيعة العدنانية على مضر أن تستأثر من دونها بالنبوة، ونفست أسد وتميم المضريتان أن تستأثر قرريش بالنبوة من دون سائر مضر، فظهر طليحة في بني أسد، وظهرت سجاع في بني تميم. وكذلك عادت الأرض كافرة بعد إسلامها، واشتعلت فيها نار ما أسرع ما انتشر لهبها حتى شمل جزيرة العرب كلها. حصر الإسلام في المدينة ومكة والطائف. وكان انتشار هذا اللهب وارتداد الكثرة الكثيرة من العرب محنة امتحن بها أبو بكر، وامتحن بها معه المسلمون بعد وفاة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم. وليس شيء أصدق تصويراً لشخصية الرجل من ثباته للمحنة مهما تعظم، ونفوذه من مشكلاتها مهما تتعقد، وظهوره على هولها مهما يكن شديداً. ولم يواجه أبو بكر في أول عهده بالخلافة ردة المانعين للزكاة، وكفر التابعين لمن تنبأ من الكذابين فحسبن وإنما واجه في الوقت نفسه تأهب العرب من نصارى الشام للمكر به والكيد له والغارة عليه. في هذه الظروف استلم الخليفة أبي بكر الصديق رضي الله عنه زمام الحكم فإذا به أمام نار مضطربة في الجزيرة العربية كلها… غير أن أزمات الحكم اشتدت أيضاً عند تسلم الإمام عمر بن الخطاب لخلافة المسلمين وهذا ما دعا عمر رضي الله عنه إلى القول عن أبي بكر بعد استلامه للخلافة أنه أتعب من بعده. وليس من شك في أن عمر كان أشد من أبي بكر إتعاباً لمن جاء بعده، مسيرة هذين الإمامين قد نهجت للمسلمين في سياسة الحكم، وفي إقامة أمور الناس على العدل والحرية والمساواة، نهجاً شق على الخلفاء والملوك من بعدها أن يتبعوه. انطلاقاً من هنا فقد سعى الدكتور “طه حسين” إلى تدوين هذا الحديث الموجز عن هذين الشيخين أبي بكر وعمر رحمها الله وأمله ليس الثناء على الشيخين ولا تفصيل تاريخ الفتوح في عصرهما، وإنما أراد أن يبين للقارئ هذا الحديث شخصية أبي بكر وعمر، كما صورتها سيرتهما، وكما صورتها الأحداث التي كانت في عصرهما، وكما صورها الطابع الذي طبعت به حياة المسلمين من بعدهما، والذي كان له أعظم الآثر فيما خضعت له الأمة العربية في أطوارها وما نجم فيها من فتن.

من أول وهلة يتسرب للأذهان ما يرحل بهذا الكتاب لأزمنة سالفة مضت عليها سنون عددا.. لقد ألف الشيخ الغزالي هذا الكتاب سنة 1947 تكملة لكتابه الأول ‘ الإسلام والأوضاع الاقتصادية ‘٬ ومن ثم فهو امتداد للمؤلف السابق عليه. والكتاب صورة حية رائعة لموقف الإسلام من أوضاع أعلنها الملحدون حلا للفقر وقلة الحاجة.. حلا لأحوال طبقة معينة خاضعة لبعض الأنظمة المستبدة.. الكتاب تعديل وضبط وتصحيح لتلك الآراء وبيان موقف الإسلام جليا بصورة كتب لها الخلود والاستمرار ولم يقدر على تخليد الآراء سوى الشيخ الغزالي. وفى الكتاب دراسة فقهية لكثير من الأسئلة تضج بها لجان وصفحات الفتوى في المؤسسات الدينية. والشيخ بهذه الدراسة يسبق علماء عصره والسابقين في طريق هذا المجال الصعب٬ وإن كتب بعده الشهيد سيد قطب والدكتور ‘ مصطفى السباعى ‘ واستعان الدكتور القرضاوى بآراء الشيخ الجديرة بالتسجيل في كتابه الشهير ‘ فقه الزكاة ‘ وغيرهم من أساتذة الجيل ورواد الاقتصاد والفكر الحر. ومن الصعب أن نوجه للكتاب نقدا يستحق التسجيل إلا أن الشيخ نقد نفسه بمنتهى الشجاعة ورفض تسمية ‘ الاشتراكية ‘ وسجل ندم الدكتور مصطفى السباعى رحمه الله على استخدامه لفظ الاشتراكية ٬ والسبب أن الاشتراكيين الشيوعيين تركوا رأى الإسلام ومنهجه الاعتدالى واعتبروه دليل مشروعية لمناهجهم الاشتراكية!
