Author: Nawal El Saadawi

About the Author: Nawal El Saadawi: She is one of the most controversial figures; Where it is difficult for the reader to stand in a middle position, either he is with her or he is against her. She is the most famous of those who called for the liberation of women from their chains, and who openly disobeyed what she called the “male society.” Nawal El-Sayed El-Saadawi was born in Kafr Talha, Dakahlia Governorate, in 1931 AD, to a middle-class family; Her father was an employee of the Ministry of Education, and he played a major role in her life, from him she learned to rebel against the restrictions of society, and that the constants that she does not believe in are idols that are easy to destroy. As for her mother, she is a simple country lady, from whom her daughter inherited the skin and the responsibility. Nawal El Saadawi completed her university studies and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in 1955. Despite the constant struggle within it between literature and medicine, one of them did not win the battle. Our author was a feisty physician and a questionable writer. She was married three times, and her marriage resulted in a son and a girl, and it was her last marriage to “Sherif Hatata” that propelled her work to the international level by translating it into English. Nawal El-Saadawi wrote more than fifty different works between the novel, the story, the play and the biography, and played with her pen on the Holy Trinity (religion, sex and politics) to undermine it; It calls for women to be liberated from the bondage of men, flying to a broader horizon than equality itself. When the woman wore the hijab in a religious manner, her mind concealed before her hair, and the man lifted it in the name of sex. On the cusp of politics, she lost everything and spent her life defending women; Her freedom was deprived, she was dismissed from her job, her name was included in the list of assassinations, and she had no choice but to search for freedom and safety elsewhere, but wherever she went, the issue of women was her greatest concern, so she kept writing about and to her. Despite her efforts in defending Egyptian and Arab women’s issues, she was celebrated by several non-Arab countries, and she was also nominated for a Nobel Prize. The name Nawal El Saadawi remains one of the most important names engraved in the imagination of feminist literature.

الكرامة الإنسانية book pdf download By Burhan Zureik

Reasoning with Rules: An Essay on Legal Reasoning and Its Underlying Logic book pdf download By Jaap Hage

Rule-applying legal arguments are traditionally treated as a kind of syllogism. Such a treatment overlooks the fact that legal principles and rules are not statements which describe the world, but rather means by which humans impose structure on the world. Legal rules create legal consequences, they do not describe them. This has consequences for the logic of rule- and principle-applying arguments, the most important of which may be that such arguments are defeasible. This book offers an extensive analysis of the role of rules and principles in legal reasoning, which focuses on the close relationship between rules, principles, and reasons. Moreover, it describes a logical theory which assigns a central place to the notion of reasons for and against a conclusion, and which is especially suited to deal with rules and principles.

Introduction to Law book pdf download By Jaap Hage

This book is exceptional in the sense that it provides an introduction to law in general rather than the law of one specific jurisdiction, and it presents a unique way of looking at legal education. It is crucial for lawyers to be aware of the different ways in which societal problems can be solved and to be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of different legal solutions. In this respect, being a lawyer involves being able to reason like a lawyer, even more than having detailed knowledge of particular sets of rules. Introduction to Law reflects this view by focusing on the functions of rules and on ways of arguing the relative qualities of alternative legal solutions. Where ‘positive’ law is discussed, the emphasis is on the legal questions that must be addressed by a field of law and on the different solutions which have been adopted by, for instance, the common law and civil law tradition. The law of specific jurisdictions is discussed to illustrate possible answers to questions such as when the existence of a valid contract is assumed.

About the Author: Beth Simmons is Andrea Mitchell Penn Integrates Knowledge University Professor of Law, Political Science and Business Ethics at the University of Pennsylvania. She researches and teaches international relations, international law and international political economy. She is best known for her research on international political economy during the interwar years, policy diffusion globally and her work demonstrating the influence that international law has on human rights outcomes around the world. Simmons is currently working on a project that attempts to document and explain the paradox of hardening international borders between states in an era of globalization. She uses satellite imagery to document evidence of state presence at international border crossings and the location in time and space of border walls and fences round the world. Her goal is to write a book probing the politics, economics and social anxieties behind international border “thickening.” Two of her books, Who Adjusts? Domestic Sources of Foreign Economic Policy During the Interwar Years (2004) and Mobilizing for Human Rights: International Law in Domestic Politics (2009) won the American Political Science Association’s Woodrow Wilson Award for the best book published in the United States on government, politics, or international affairs. The latter was also recognized by the American Society for International Law, the International Social Science Council and the International Studies Association as the best book of the year in 2010. Her current and recent research have been supported by the Carnegie Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Smith Richardson Foundation and the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard University. Mobilizing for Human Rights: International Law in Domestic Politics book pdf download By Beth Simmons

Winner of the 2010 Best Book of the Year Award, International Studies Association! Beth Simmons argues that international human rights law has made a positive contribution to the realization of human rights in much of the world. Although governments sometimes ratify human rights treaties, gambling that they will experience little pressure to comply with them, this is not typically the case. Focusing on rights stakeholders rather than the United Nations or state pressure, Beth Simmons demonstrates through a combination of statistical analyses and case studies that the ratification of treaties leads to better rights practices on average. By several measures, civil and political rights, women’s rights, a right not to be tortured in government detention, and children’s rights improve, especially in the very large heterogeneous set of countries that are neither stable autocracies nor stable democracies. Simmons argues that international human rights law should get more practical and rhetorical support from the international community as a supplement to broader efforts to address conflict, development, and democratization.

International Law and International Relations book pdf download By Beth Simmons

This 2007 volume is intended to help readers understand the relationship between international law and international relations (IL/IR). As a testament to this dynamic area of inquiry, new research on IL/IR is now being published in a growing list of traditional law reviews and disciplinary journals. The excerpted articles in this volume, all of which were first published in International Organization, represent some of the most important research since serious social science scholarship began in this area more than twenty five years ago. They are important milestones toward making IL/IR a central concern of scholarly research in international affairs. The contributions cover some of the main topics of international affairs to provide readers with a range of theoretical perspectives, concepts, and heuristics that can be used to analyze the relationship between international law and international relations.
