Author: William Goldman

About the Author: William Goldman (August 12, 1931 – November 16, 2018) was an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. He first came to prominence in the 1950s as a novelist before turning to screenwriting. He won Academy Awards for his screenplays Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) and All the President’s Men (1976). His other known works include his thriller novel Marathon Man and his cult classic comedy/fantasy novel The Princess Bride, both of which he also adapted for the film versions.

Which Lie Did I Tell: More Adventures in the Screen Trade book pdf download By William Goldman

Something odd, if predictable, became of screenwriter William Goldman after he wrote the touchstone tell-all book on filmmaking, Adventures in the Screen Trade (1983), he became a Hollywood leper. Goldman opens his long-awaited sequel by writing about his years of exile before he found himself–again–as a valuable writer in Hollywood. Fans of the two-time Oscar-winning writer (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President’s Men) have anxiously waited for this follow-up since his career serpentined into a variety of big hits and critical bombs in the ’80s and ’90s. Here Goldman scoops on The Princess Bride (his own favorite), Misery, Maverick, Absolute Power, and others. Goldman’s conversational style makes him easy to read for the film novice but meaty enough for the detail-oriented pro. His tendency to ramble into other subjects may be maddening (he suddenly switches from being on set with Eastwood to anecdotes about Newman and Garbo), but we can excuse him because of one fact alone: he is so darn entertaining.

Dark Shadows book pdf download By Harry M. Benshoff

While supernatural events have become fairly commonplace on daytime television in recent decades, Dark Shadows, which aired on ABC between 1966 and 1971, pioneered this format when it blended the vampires, werewolves, warlocks, and witches of fictional Collinsport, Maine, with standard soap opera fare like alcoholism, jealousy, and tangled love. In this volume, author Harry M. Benshoff examines Dark Shadows, both during its initial run and as an enduring cult phenomenon, to prove that the show was an important precursor-or even progenitor-of today’s phenomenally popular gothic and fantasy media franchises like Twilight, Harry Potter, and True Blood. Benshoff demonstrates that viewers of all ages responded to the haunted world of Dark Shadows, making unlikely stars out of the show’s iconic characters-reluctant vampire Barnabas Collins, playboy werewolf Quentin Collins, vengeful witch Angelique DuVal, and vampire hunter Dr. Julia Hoffman. Benshoff explores the cultural and industrial contexts of the mid-1960s that gave rise to Dark Shadows and how the show adapted nineteenth-century gothic novels and twentieth-century horror films into a televised serial format. Benshoff also examines the unique aspects of the show’s casting and performance modes, its allure as a camp cult text, and the function of the show’s many secondary and tertiary texts-including novels, records, games, comic books, and the two feature films, House of Dark Shadows (1970) and Night of Dark Shadows (1971).

Queer Images: A History of Gay and Lesbian Film in America book pdf download By Harry M. Benshoff

Queer Images chronicles representations of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer sexualities over one hundred years of American film. The most up-to-date and comprehensive book of its kind, it explores the ever-changing images of queer characters onscreen as well as the work of queer filmmakers and the cultural histories of queer audiences–from the works of discreetly homosexual filmmakers during Hollywood’s Golden Age and classical Hollywood’s attempt to purge _sex perversion_ from films, to queer exploitation and physique films, cinematic responses to AIDS, and how contemporary Hollywood deals with queer issues. An essential volume for film buffs and anyone interested in sexuality and culture.

Author: Alberto Moravia

About the Author: Alberto Moravia, an Italian writer, was born in Rome in 1907 and died on September 26, 1990 in the city of Rome, where he lived most of his life. He is considered one of the most famous Italian writers of the twentieth century. He writes in Italian and speaks both English and French. He was born into a wealthy middle-class family. His Jewish father, Carlo, was a painter and engineer, and his Catholic mother, Teresa Legiana. Alberto did not finish his studies because he contracted tuberculosis, which kept him in bed for five years, which made him love reading. In 1929 Moravian wrote his first book, Gli Indifferenti, and then began his career as a writer in 900 magazine, where he wrote his first short stories. Moravian literary works were distinguished by their brilliance and realism, as they penetrated into the depths of the human soul. Moravia attacked moral corruption in Italy. Most of his works have been translated into several international languages, and many of his novels have been turned into films.

Al cinema: Centoquarantotto film d’autore book pdf download By Alberto Moravia

The Rough Guide to Sci-Fi Movies 1 book pdf download By John Scalzi

This is not a bad little tome.Scalzi takes a pretty even-handed look at the movies, giving a literature background to start with, an introduction to films, and then listing his 50 important selections. He also takes a look at tv, music, and important figures or characters from the various productions. He even mentions novelisations which he thinks are good (ET, and Buckaroo Banzai) and the Abyss, which I don’t remember reading if I did, but I agree with the first two, and am still looking for a copy of Buckaroo. Also a section on non-English films. If you are quite familiar with all this already, you don’t need this book, as you will have seen all of them and know most of it, barring the odd Mexican wrestler movie perhaps. Even so, it would be a useful reference, and certainly excellent as an introduction to those that are new.It is also an annoying odd square shape to some degree.
