About the Author: (1306 AH / November 15, 1889 – 1393 AH / October 28, 1973 AD), an Egyptian writer and critic, was called the Dean of Arabic Literature. He changed the Arabic novel, the creator of the biography in his book “The Days”, which was published in 1929. He is considered one of the most prominent figures in the modern Arab literary movement. The ideas and positions of Taha Hussein still raise controversy until today. He studied at Al-Azhar, then joined the Ahlia University when it opened in 1908, obtained a doctorate in 1914, then was sent to France to complete the study. He returned to Egypt to work as a professor of history and then as a professor of the Arabic language. He worked as Dean of the Faculty of Arts, then Director of Alexandria University, then Minister of Education. Among his most famous books are: On Pre-Islamic Poetry (1926) and The Future of Culture in Egypt (1938).

يرى «طه حسين» أن الحضارة اليونانية القديمة بمفكريها وفنَّانيها الكبار كانت الرافد الأهم (بل ربما الأوحد) للحضارة الأروبية الحديثة، التي استفاد جميع البشر بمنجزاتها، ولكن الأمر لم يكن سهلًا، فقد مرَّ الفكر الأروبي بمراحل تطور مستمرة وطويلة عبر التاريخ، فمن البداوة اليونانية القُحَّة ظهر الشعر كضرورة ليعبِّر الإنسان عن عواطفه وأحاسيسه، ويحكي بعضًا من مفاخره في صور خيالية، فكانت الملاحم الشعرية الكبرى على يد «هوميروس» وغيره من كبار شعراء اليونان. ثم بدأ الإنسان يستشعر حاجته لأنْ يدرك ويفهم ويفسر ما يحدث حوله من ظواهر وأحداث، فبذل جهدًا عقليًا منظمًا، ينتقد فيه كل ثابت على ضوء العقل، فكانت الفلسفة التي تطورت موضوعاتها هي الأخرى وتشعبت مباحثها على أيدي الأساتذة الكبار أمثال؛ «سقراط» و«أفلاطون» لتستمر رحلة الفكر ما تعاقب الليل والنهار.
