مَرضٌ غَريبٌ يَجتاحُ سُكانَ وَادٍ مَعزولٍ بَيْنَ الجِبال، يَتسبَّبُ في فِقدانِ الناسِ أبصارَهُم شَيئًا فشَيئًا، ويُورثُه كلُّ جِيلٍ للجِيلِ الذي يَلِيه، إلى أنْ يأتيَ عليهم زَمنٌ لا يَكونُ فِيهِ مُبصِرٌ واحِد، وتُصبحُ كلمةُ «الإبصار»، وكلُّ ما يَتعلَّقُ بها مِن كلماتٍ تَصِفُ ما تَرَاه العَيْن، بَعِيدةً تَمامَ البُعدِ عَن قاموسِ هؤلاءِ الناس، ولا يَعرِفونَ لها أيَّ مَعنًى، بَل أيضًا يُصبِحُ وادِيهِمُ البَعيدُ عَن عالَمِ البَشرِ هو الكَونَ بأَسْرِه بالنِّسبةِ إليهم، ولا شيءَ سِواه. وذاتَ يَومٍ تُلقِي الأقدارُ بأحدِ الغُرَباءِ المُبصِرينَ إلى بَلدِ العُمْيان، فمَاذا تُراهُ يَفعَل؟ ومَاذا تُراهُم يَفعَلونَ به؟ وهَلْ تَصدُقُ في حَقِّه المَقُولةُ القَدِيمة: «في بلدِ العُمْيانِ يَكونُ الأَعْورُ مَلِكًا»؟
