About the Author: An Egyptian novelist and short story writer, born in 1947 in the Gharbia Governorate, specifically the city of Mahalla al-Kubra. He obtained a diploma from the Commercial Technical Preparation Institute. He began his literary career in 1984 with the publication of his first collection of stories entitled “The Ugly and the Rose” by Dar Shahdi. This was followed by the publication of nearly 6 collections of stories, their titles varied: “The Taste of Carnations”, “Silver Bird” and “The Suppression of the Passion”, as well as Tales of the Prophet’s Sweet Neighborhood, and the City Quartet, in addition to writing many stories and radio and television representations for children.
He has published several collections of short stories and novels, including: The Ugly and the Rose – Short Stories – Dar Shahdi 1984 – The Taste of the Carnation.

البطل (سيد) في الرواية حينما ضاقت به الأرض رغم رحابتها فضل اللجوء الحثيث إلي أطراف البلدة حيث النهر الجميل؛ ليجد صيادا خارجا من النهر علي ظهر بغلة.. كالحلم لكنه الحقيقة.. يقف (سيد) مشدوها لكن الصياد يطمئنه قائلا له بأنه يبحث عن كنزه الضائع بالنهر.. ويعد (سيد) بتحقيق حلمه الذي هو بيت علي ضفاف النهر علي آلا ينسي عدة زروع صغيرة هامة لمجيء الصياد إليه مرات أخرى.. (جميلة) الزوجة الريفية الأصيلة والتي تحزن عند مغادرة البيت العائلي الكبير لتذهب مع زوجها وأولادها الصغار في الخلاء لبناء البيت الجديد, والذي استعد له سيد بجلب الأخشاب بمساعدة الفلاح الطيب (زينهم) صاحب الحمار . يقوم (سيد) سعيدا برسم الحدود واضعا لتلك الحدود بابا خشبيا عملاق.. فيأتيه خاله الغائب دوما ليبارك له مندهشا فيفسر له (سيدا) أن هذا الخلاء سيصير عصريا فيما بعد ليس ببعيد. يظهر الصديق(أبو سعدة) ذلك الفلاح الطيب ذاهبا ليرى البيت الجديد بعد بناؤه والذي اسماه (زينهم) عند اكتمال البناء ببيت العفاريت لوجوده في الخلاء بالجوار من النهر.
