About the Author: Haitham Al-Wardani (1972) is an Egyptian writer and media expert based in Berlin. He obtained a BA in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University in 1995. He has published several short stories and literary works, including his third collection of short stories. He received the “First Work” award from the Sawiris Foundation for Egyptian Literature in 2005. He has participated in a number of art projects in Berlin and Cairo, including the exhibition of the New Society for Visual Arts Berlin in 2006. He published three short story collections: “Strings on Circles” (along with others), “The Imperfect Literature Group” (Sawiris Prize for the Short Story 2003), and “A Daydream” (Cairo Book Fair Award for Best Short Story 2012) Al-Wardani began his career as a freelance journalist with Akhbar Al-Adab magazine and other media outlets in Cairo. Among his works: Threads on Circles – Orientals 1995 The Imperfect Literature Group – Merritt 2003 A Dayd Dream – Merit – 2011.

العيش في لغة أجنبية يشبه مشاهدة التلفزيون. تجلس وتتابع ما يدور أمامك وأنت تعرف أنه وهم شبيه بالواقع. لحظة منفصلة تقع على هامش لحظتك الحالية. أطراف الحديث التي تتجاذبها وأنت تتحدث لغة أجنبية تشبه جملا تجري على لسان ممثل يقوم بدور صغير في مشهد ممل. حتى أكثر المشاعر صدقا تخرج وكأنها كتبت خصيصا لمسلسل تلفزيوني يعرض وقت الظهيرة. مسلسل تقوم فيه بمهمة عجيبة وهي تقمص ذاتك. أما الجزء الذي يعيش في اللغة الأم فيتوارى قليلا في الخلفية، وبتأمل في رأي “آندي وارهول” عن التلفزيون، حيث قال ذات مرة إنه ليس صحيحا ما يذهب إليه البعض من أن أفلام التلفزيون تقدم لنا صورة مزيفة عن الحياة، وإنما ما يحدث لنا في حياتنا الحقيقية هو الزيف بعينه. فالأفلام والمسلسلات التي تعرض في التلفزيون تكثف المشاعر التي تنتابنا أثناء مشاهدتها وتجعلها حقيقة، في حين لا يكاد المرء يشعر بشيء عندما يمر بأحداث حقيقية في حياته، إنه يتابعها كأنه يشاهدها على شاشة التلفزيون.
