عانى «كريستوف كولومب» الكثيرَ والكثيرَ في طريقه لاكتشاف العالم الجديد، ولعلَّ معاناته هذه هي ما صنعت مجده بعد أن اكتشف العالم الجديد أو «الأمريكتين». والرواية ترصد هذه المتاعب عن طريق الحكي المسرحي، حيث يقابل «كريستوف كولومب» راهبين ويحكي لهما كلَّ ما يعانيه منذ أن تجرَّع الفقر وتخبَّط في القُرى، إلى أن رفضت دولته مشروعه، وكذلك رفضته مملكة «البرتغال»، إلى أن وافقت ملكة «إسبانيا» على تمويل رحلته. والرواية تاريخية مسرحية تعتمد على الحبكة والأحداث التاريخية إبَّان معارك الأوروبيين مع حكام «غرناطة» العرب بالأندلس، واعتمد مؤلفها «مارون عبود» في سرد الأحداث على الشعر الذي جاء على لسان شخصياتها في كثير من مشاهدها.
