About the Author: Dr. Abou Madian al-Shafi’i a modern Algerian pioneer psychologist Abstract Dr. Abou Madian al-Shafi’i was one of the high profile Algerian pioneer psychologists in the modern history. He was one of the first Algerian students who got the PhD in psychology in Cairo in 1947. He got his PhD after a long and exhausting journey from Tlmecen (Algeria), Morocco, Italy and to Egypt. He made this journey, to make his successful graduation, in the age of seventeen when the French colonization wouldn’t have let him do so in Algeria. After getting his PhD, he was appointed a teacher of psychology in the Egyptian university, and then he opened his clinic where he was killed by an Egyptian Jewish in 1958. Dr. Abou Madian contributed a lot in serving the Algerian situation. He left a valuable legacy of many researches, articles and science books which many of are considered teaching sources in the Egyptian, Iraqi and Shami universities.

إن الفرق الأساسي الذي يميز الرجل المتحضر عن الرجل البدائي المتأخر يرجع إلى مقدرة الأول على القيام بأفعال إرادية حرة. ولو تأملنا حياة البدائيين والشعوب المتأخرة عن موكب الحضارة لوجدناها حياة خضوع لأوهام وخرافات تتحكم في الأفعال لتوجهها توجيها معينا ولا تسمح لها بالابتكار. للفعل إذن صلة وثيقة بالذهن والعقائد وهو من میدان علم النفس لا الفسيولوجية وإن كان في مظهره يبدو ظاهرة جسمية. لقد حاول الفلاسفة ورجال الدين الوصول إلى حقيقة الإرادة ، وكانت محاولتهم كلها. وتحققت النتيجة المعروفة وفصلت الإرادة عن مظاهرها الخارجية وقالوا بوجود إرادة مستقلة تسير الجسم كما تشاء ونسبت إليها الحرية المطلقة عند بعض الفلاسفة وأرجعته إلى إرادة الله عند البعض الآخر. وقال قوم الإنسان حر مختار وقال آخرون بل هو مجبر مسير .
