لقد تركت رواية “أبجدية القتلى” التى تعد أكبر نجاح للأديبة العالمية “أجاثا كريستى” بصمة كبيرة فى تاريخ الروايات البوليسية ، فتدور أحداثها حول قاتل مجنون يسلك طريقه للوصول إلى ضحاياه بناءً على الترتيب الأبجدى للحروف الإنجليزية ، ففى البداية بدأ بحرف (A) فقتل السيدة آشر فى مدينة آندوفر ، ثم تلاها بحرف (B) فشنق بيتى برنارد على شاطئ بيكسهيل ، أما بالنسبة لحرف (C) فقد كان ضحيته السيد كارمايكل كلارك من تشرستون ، ولكى يضع توقيعه الشخصى على كل جريمة كان يترك بجانب الجثة دليل سكة حديد مفتوحاً على اسم المكان الذى وقعت فيه الجريمة .. فإلى أأى مدى سيصل فى جرائمه فى الحروف الأبجدية؟ كان يبدو أنه لن يتمكن أحد من القبض عليه ، ولكنه ارتكب خطأ ، وهو الخطأ الذى يرتكبه كل المجرمين ، عندما تحدى بدافع غروره الخالص قدرة السيد “بوارو” على إحباط خططه.
