About the Author: A Lebanese-American philosopher, poet, writer, and painter, he was born on January 6, 1883 in the town of Bcharre, northern Lebanon, and died in New York on April 10, 1931 of tuberculosis. He immigrated when he was young with his mother and brothers to America in 1895, where he studied art and began his literary career. He is best known to the Western world for his book, “The Prophet”, which was published in 1923. Gibran is also the best-selling poet, after Shakespeare and Lausy. In his writings, there were two directions, one of them taking strength and revolting against the dogmas of religion, and the other following the tendencies and enjoying life.

يضم هذا الكتاب الشعلة الزرقاء رسائل جبران خليل جبران إلى مي زيادة، وهو يتوجه إلى محبي أدب الرسائل الذين من حقهم أن يعلموا أن هذه الرسائل المخطوطة ألقت أضواءً جديدة على حياة هذين الكاتبين المبدعين، وعلى فكرهما ومؤلفاتهما، وعلى العلاقة العاطفية التي نشأت بينهما عبر المراسلة في الثلث الأول من القرن العشرين. عدد الرسائل ثمان وثلاثون رسالة، وكذلك برقية مطبوعة أرسلها جبران من نيويورك إلى مي في القاهرة مطلع عام 1931 للتهنئة بالسنة الجديدة، معتذراً عن الكتابة إليها “بيد مريضة”. وكان آخر ما تسلمته مي من جبران رسماً لكف مفتوحة، تتوقد منها شعلة زرقاء مرسومة بريشته، وكتب بخطه إلى جانبها: “من جبران إلى ماري” بتاريخ 26 آذار 1931، أي قبل وفاته بأسبوعين فقط، انطلاقاً من هنا أعطى لمجموعة رسائله هذه إليها عنواناً يرمز إلى شعلة حبهما الصافية الخالدة!
