لما كانت السعادة التي هي مطلوب الأولين والآخرين لا تنال إلا بالعلم والعمل، وافتقر كل واحد منهما إلى الإحاطة بحقيقته ومقداره، ووجب معرفة العلم والتمييز بينه وبين غيره بمعيار، وفرغنا منه، وجب معرفة العمل المسعد، والتمييز بينه وبين العمل المشقي. فافتقر ذلك أيضاً إلى ميزان، فأردنا أن نخوض فيه ونبين أن الفتور عن طلب السعادة حماقة، ثم نبيّن العلم وطريق تحصيله، ثم نبيّن العمل المسعد وطريقه. وكل ذلك بطريقة تترقى عن حد طريق التقليد إلى حد الوضوح، لو استقصى بحقيقته وطوّل الكلم فيه ارتقى إلى حد البرهان على الشروط التي ذكرناها في ” معيار العلم ” . وإن كنا لسنا نطوّل الكلام به، ولكن نرشد إلى أصوله وقوانينه. حمل الكتاب وإستفد منه وشاركه مع الأهل والأصدقاء.
