أعتقد أننا واهمون في تصور فيزياء التقدم ومحرضاته؛ حيث أرى أن المطالبة ببلورة مشروع حضـاري لا تعدو أن تكون سفسطة كلاميـة لا تنطوي على أي مضمون ذي قيمة حقيقية. ونقول في تفنيد هذه الفكرة: إذا كان المراد بالمشروع الحضاري مجموعة الأصول والمبادئ الكبرى التي تحكم عمل الحكومات والمؤسسات، وتنظم العلاقات بين الناس، وتفعِّل جهود الأفراد في تجويد الأداء؛ فإن هذا كله متوافر في الإسلام عقيـدة وشريعة وآدابًا، وعلى أساسه قامـت حضـارة الإسلام المجيدة. وحين توقفت تلك الحضارة عن العطاء كانت تلك المبادئ والأصول تدرس في الكتاتيب والمدارس والحلقات التعليمية، بل إنه لم يكن يُدرَّس غيرها فيها – في كثير من الأحيان – ولم يكن في الساحة الإسلامية ما ينافسها.
