About the Author: Alberto Moravia, an Italian writer, was born in Rome in 1907 and died on September 26, 1990 in the city of Rome, where he lived most of his life. He is considered one of the most famous Italian writers of the twentieth century. He writes in Italian and speaks both English and French. He was born into a wealthy middle-class family. His Jewish father, Carlo, was a painter and engineer, and his Catholic mother, Teresa Legiana. Alberto did not finish his studies because he contracted tuberculosis, which kept him in bed for five years, which made him love reading. In 1929 Moravian wrote his first book, Gli Indifferenti, and then began his career as a writer in 900 magazine, where he wrote his first short stories. Moravian literary works were distinguished by their brilliance and realism, as they penetrated into the depths of the human soul. Moravia attacked moral corruption in Italy. Most of his works have been translated into several international languages, and many of his novels have been turned into films.

تعتبر هذه الرواية مرحلة جديدة في أسلوب مورافيا الروائي يختلف عن أسلوبه السابق في “السأم” و”الاحتقار” و”الانتباه” وسواها، بالرغم من أن موضوع الجنس يطغى عليها جميعاً. ولكن الجنس هنا ليس عضواً من الجسم بقدر ما هو شخصية ذات كيان يقوم بينها وبين “الأنا” الفرويدي صراع يعبر عن انفصام البطل “الشيزوفرانيا”. وإلى جانب كون هذه الرواية جنسية فلسفية، فهي تراجيدية كوميدية معاً. (فالأنا) رجل يعمل في ميدان السينما ويطمح إلى وضع سيناريو فيلم مناصر للحركة اليسارية، ولكن “الآخر” الذي هو رغبته الجنسية يقف عقبة كأداء في سبيل تحقيق آماله بما يفرضه عليه من مطالب.. وهكذا تروي القصة أحداث صراع “ريكو” مع شخصيته الثانية. فلا بد للقارئ من اكتشاف رموز كثيرة وراء الوقائع المادية المحسوسة. ويعتبر مورافيا نفسه في الرواية واقعياً جداً حتى من حيث مواجهته لفرويد وماركس معاً، و”ريكو” يدرك أن سيناريو الفيلم الذي يكتبه وهو “الاستملاك” يجب أن يتضمن نقده الذاتي في شكل ما.
